    PC World Advert: Sueing Material?

As many of you will have seen, the latest PC World advert shows 'an amazing value' Packard Bell laptop with 'Centrino Mobile Technology'. However, unlike most PC World adverts, where they just call their products "high tech" or "powerful", they have actually lied outright (as opposed to the stupendously positive product comments they usually dish out). They actually state that Centrino technology "gives you an internet connection wherever you are".

Now, could one sue PC World for misleading product descriptions?

I also heard and thought about that one, girlfriend reckons I should sue but that means having to buy a laptop from the scumbags in the first place - no sirreeee!

I bought my laptop from them... i could sue

but then i generally CAN use internet wherever i am (with it). at home - mmm wireless, on the train - wireless again, at bf's house - again, at uni - OH LOOK! WIRELESS. And they're the only places i take it. But technically, i could sue cos they dont do wireless on a bus, why i would get my laptop out on a bus full of chavs, i dont know, but still, the point is there.

And they'd also get away with it because its obscurely true...thats to say with the number of insecure wi-fi networks, one can gain access to the Internet practically anywhere, but perhaps they were referring to anywhere around the house, which in my opinion is still kind of misleading if you ask me what with thick walls, interferance etc...

And the way basic law is, you have to have bought the mis-leading product for the advertised reason to have any chance of winning...

Hmm, I think a complaint to the ASA might be in order. But suing is just..stupid and, something that you'd expect in the states tbh. Greed, I hate it

tbh, i think you would have to buy the product having also gotten pc world to state at the time of selling it to you that you have wireless access anywhere for you to win a court case in this country.

all you could realistically expect to achieve over here is complaining to the relevant authority that the advert is misleading, and they'd probably just yank the ad.

    Gotta love the law.

Well, its there to protect people who've been wronged, not to fill the pockets of anyone who sees a corporation making a mistake.

Well, I'm pretty sure that they could argue it gives you an internet connection wherever you are providing there's an internet provider to connect to

i think you could complain to trading standards. suing them would be pointless.. i did also spot the same thing

incidentally - best of both worlds? pc world online/shops has high-street prices, but online advice (none).. worst of both worlds imo

It doesn't have ham in the name, it has HamBURG. Whilst the exact origins of the hamburger is a subject of some debate, the name it's self has German roots.
