proably, i also think it was the martial arts that won the BBC2 thingy?
That was quite a funny programme, if I'm remembering the same one. Where they did challenges, then had to fight an opponent? Nice to see martial arts on TV, even if it is watered down with helmets and elbow/kneepads. Not a patch on channel 5s "Now is the Time - Night of Combat". I stay up until 4am every saturday, just to watch that :>
Thanks Richie, Theo. I’ll do some research into those, although on initial impressions Wing Chun sounds more like what I want to do. Thank you.
Wing Chun's great, but it's too diverse. Too many offshoot of it teaching an art which is called Wing Tsun/Chun but actually isn't.
If you start proper WC, you'll spend a year or so being taught how to stand and breathe before you even learn how to punch properly. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of time for WC, but unless you're of the right frame of mind you'll find it incredibly dull learning it.
Next, all these people saying that "try this style cos it's better, try this one etc" are talking out their bum. Go try a variety of styles and see what you get on with, and more importantly if you fit into the club and get on with people.
Don't get too caught up in fighting one way only. Different styles have different strengths and it pays to exploit them all to make you a more rounded fighter. That's what Bruce Lee's Jeet Kun Do is all about, which is a lot like Chongshindo which I do though our grounding is in Taekwondo and not WC.
I myself know martial arts, Mr. Miyagi's school of Kara-te.
Training consists of..
"paint the fence," "wax on/wax off" or "sand the floor."
Daniel- "Hey Mr Miyagi, do you know how to sweep?"
Miyagi- "Of course Daniel San"
Daniel- "D'ya think ya could show me?"
Miyagi- Gets brush...
Miyagi- "First go like this..."
Miyagi: Karate come from China, sixteenth century, called te, "hand." Hundred year later, Miyagi ancestor bring to Okinawa, call *kara*-te, "empty hand." Daniel Larusso: I thought it came from Buddhist temples and stuff like that. Miyagi: You too much TV.
"Paint the fence Danya-sun" "Pain the fence!"
Yes I've been in fights. Usually when someone acts aggresively towards me I won't down and more than often it ends in a fight. And I don't lose.
I'm short and always seem to be victimised beacuse of this. It's their fault if they take on more than they can chew.
Sadly I have started "a fight" when I was blind drunk with a bouncer. Didn't actually get to hit him but I threw 2 police men off me who came to try and sort me out and so ending up wrestling with 4 policemen before being finally taken to the floor and arrested (or so I'm told, I have no memory).
Yes - I'm a violent person, I admit that. I'm planning on taking up either Chineese Kick Boxing or Kung Fu to actually put my strength to good use - and hopefully release some of the anger that I inevitably build up.
Its ironic you should say this.... Or should I say its ironic to ME that you say this as I find a lot of smaller ppl tend to be quite aggresive because they feel they get a raw deal all the time and are overlooked as they are short.....Originally posted by Prodigy

Trying not to fan any flames here but I personally find a lot of ppl that have an "attitude" because they feel they are being victimised for being short normally dont help things as SOME of them have a major chip on their shoulder over this.... In fact they will turn this on its head and purposely victimise tall ppl in some manner as they feel its not fair that they are not tall..... Is this the fault of the tall person for being tall as it is for the short person being short ??
Now what would happen if said tall person decided not to let this happen and done something about it..... To Joe Public we have someone beating up someone a lot "weaker" (thats how it will be perceived by most ppl) and its seen as unacceptable....
I aint been in the position I mention above but I DO have an open mind and am just chucking some ideas in
Also, please note that this is a theoretical example and is not aimed at anyone here.
Basically most ppl in this thread have given the same answers - "I dont pick fights but I will defend myself and it normally ends in the person not getting back up" etc etc etc...... As I said before, there's ALWAYS someone bigger and harder than you and you will come across him/her one day..... Just ask Russell Crowe about the yank he tried to beat up in a toilet a while back.....
People used to pick on me thinking I wouldn't fight back then they would push me a little too far, start a fight, and then I would break their face.
Consequently people didn't bother me anymore....
NS
Maybe i'll bother yah
*pokes*
I always wanted to be in a fight, I have my nipple done so if someone bunches me there I would be on the floor. That, though, would piss me off so bad that I would prolly end up killing him, so yeah, bring it on!!!
Richie, I think with short and very short people they normally find themselves bullied and pushed around until there comes a point in there lives where they decide enough is enough and it will make them decide to always be watching there backs and be ready for someone who might attack or insult them.
But you're right about some people who are small they are overly aggressive and easy to offend usually due to the years of abuse they have suffered at the hands of bullies and even friends.
I know this because im quite small 5 foot 5
But i do try to control my temper and most people are decent and grown-up enough to treat us as equals
Napoleon was quite short
Im 18. Im not into the fighting stuff (got better things to do tbh). I found that just leaving what they say go in one ear out the other works best. If they want to take it further they can but then theyll see me peeved off and it wont be nice then . what i find very funny is a year 7 or 8 asking for a fight and your about a foot taller and a good 4 or 5 stone heavier as well. their well funny i recon. lol

True matey but if you get jumped (which happens a lot more these days) then you may be forced to defend yourself. There are too many tarts out ther just looking for troubleOriginally posted by Dorza
