    Ebay no fun anymore.....

    hey....

i'm completly outraged by Ebay Snipers [as in web sites that have a bot for u to bid ur max payment at about 10 seconds before bidding ends.....]

tbh-i takes away the fun from Ebay- supposedly a friendly and crisp clear environment liek a proper auction...but you've got people signing up to sites like http://www.auctionsniper.com/ & http://www.bidnapper.com/ takin advantage of Ebay services and how it's supposed to be used..... and Sniping everyone...
So whats are the Hexus community opinions?
Do they agree with me-that they shouldnt exist or ruins the fun of finding brillaint bargains online

Or do you see this point" well you should have bidded higher"

Don't really use ebay enough to notice them, but surely if you want less people doing it, advertising site that snipe isn't a clever thing to do...

It makes no difference if you were sniped or not really.
You got outbid - if it happens 6 days before it ends, or 6 seconds, the net result is still the same.
With Ebay only bidding the minimum amount you have to, there is no reason to worry about it. Put your max bid on - you'll win if your the higest bidder, simple as

What annoys me more is some of the people with 99% positive feedback not replying to email.

Got this bloke atm who is registered with ebay with an address in Dorset, yet the details for payment are in Wales. When he responds to my winning bid his email his email says payment to an address in Wolverhampton with a different name. Turns out he was using 2 accounts on ebay (which is not allowed) and won't return any correspondence. So all I can do is leave negative feedback and I don't get my bargain. Looks like 90% of his stuff is legit but this one item that I bid for looks suspect.

Bleh it is annoying, but while I don't use them I do manually do it..

See with all these online auction sites, there is ZERO point in bidding before the last few seconds of the auction, all that you do then is push up the price. If you wait the longest period of time that you can before you bid you will get the best price

If it really made no difference then nobody would snipe. The difference is that with snipers you dont get a chance to respond when you have been outbid.
If everyone started putting the absolute maximum bid in from the start this would just cause the price of everything to rise, as in real auctions early bids cause the price to rise higher than it would othewise.

Ebay sponsor shows on Discovery Channel and Discovery Real Time, have done for ages.

I've not bid for anything on ebay for years i think, usually just use it like a shop and buy now.

I just bid what I'm willing to pay. No more, no less.

The only reason early bidding pushes up prices is that some people for some reason don't get the ebay minimum bid system, and decide to change their minds on the maximum bid. Several times. *shrugs* they end up paying more than they originally wanted for an item and I just move onto the next bargain. My time is worth more than the extra few percent I might save.

If you want to get a bargain, just bid lower. You'll get outbid a few times, sure, but in the end you'll get an other item that's the same or similar, unless it was really unreasonable. And if it was unreasonable, you're not likely to get it by waiting to bid either.

Sniping is the only way to use eBay these days if you want a bargain. There is nothing really wrong with it and i do it all the time. I'm not on eBay for a good laugh, I'm there trying to get the best price. Whats fun about pay out more of your hard earned cash that you could have?

Only a muppet or eBay noob would reply on eBay's automatic proxy bidding system. It serves only to drive the price up and up and up. Just don't use it! Snipe manually or automatically.

The only time you should use eBay's proxy bidding system is when you are 'prospecting'. I.e. putting in hundreds of extremely low bids in the hope that one uber bargain will slip though the net.

I've been annoyed by snipers on a few occasions. I'm pretty patient though. I just wait around for the next auction. When enough of them get sniped, I just decide to raise my max. I'm a sucker

    I'd never use a auto-snipe service/site, but i do usually manually "snipe".

I usually bid in the last 2 mins on auctions,

I only ever snipe to be honest. In an actual auction house you would hardly stick a price on something, leave the room and come back after the auction is over on the assumption that other people won't better your bid.

It's fair and as far as I can see the only way you would bid anyway.
