No i need them to go to tapes for Diaster Recovery, Ive been looking at LTO 2 and LTO 3 tape drives.

If you use Ultrium 3 tapes you get 400gb on each

Bit pricey though

The 400GB is uncompressed aswell
Also, depends on what you class as pricey. 700GB backups allways cost lots

Yep, and they're always SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. We have a Sony AIT3 autoloader and that takes about 30 hours to do 600GB. I'm putting in for an external disk pack for our NAS device in this year's budget, which'll give me about 1.2TB of fast SCSI storage. We use BE10d and I'm looking at upgrading our domain controllers to 2003 Server so we can use a combination of the BE Continuous Protection Server and Volume Shadow Copy, then run to tape for DR purposes.

Thats fast!
One would hope any company that invests over £2.5K on their backup solution (before adding the cost of media) will also have invested in making sure their backbone is all gigabit!

LTO is considerably faster. Get LTO-3 if possible (and you will see the performance if you are on gigabit as badass pointed out!)
