No love for King of Shaves Azors? Used to use Gilette Mach 3 etc and I've found these are much better.

I used the Quattro, changed blades every 4/5 weeks but should do more often as I do notice them going downhill.
Just changed to the King of shaves Razor as it was the same price as buying 4 new blades for my Quattro, bit weird as it's 'backwards' but easy to clean out as it has a big gap in the back to rinse through.

as for gel use king of shaves, costs £3 and last me for about 5months as you only need a tiny bit, recently bought a cheapo ASDA 97p gel which works great but you have to use loads so it's a false economy

Re: Which razor for a wet shave?

I had too much facial hair for my trusty electric to cope with, so after reading this thread I took the plunge and started wet shaving again today. I bought a Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium and some very basic shaving cream, anything too complicated or with too much perfume in etc just sets me off in a rash. The cost of replacement blades isn't too bad either, £4.88 I think for 4.

The problem I've always had with wet shaving is that I cut myself to bits, however today I did the following

    1) Rinsed my face with stone cold water
    2) Washed it with VERY hot water and simple pure soap
    3) Rinsed off again with cold water
    4) More hot water and lots of shaving cream

Result, only 3 minor cuts which disappeared again when I rinsed my face off with very cold water.

Shan't be using my electric again. Unless I'm in a hurry.

Re: Which razor for a wet shave?

Need some serious help!!! Any advice on where to go or what to so would be great.

I have tried nearly all shaving products/razors under the sun!! Currently use the Gillette Fusion razor with some shaving cream for sensitive skin. Now if I don't shave for a week my shave is a lot closer than if I shave every day. If I shave every day the razor hurts my skin and I end up not properly shaving. I have tried a hot wet towel etc etc No matter how much pressure / lack of pressure, or shaving with/against the grain....................its the same result!!

When I shave every day my face seems to be clear of any facial hair........................but half hour later and I can feel bits that I seem to have missed.

Can't figure out what to do!! Should I go see some skin person or something??

Would really appriciate some helpful advice on this!!

Well I took the plunge and bought a Merkur 34C, brush (feel sorry for the miserable chinese badger that contributed to that, though ) and Taylor's shaving cream for £40 all in. The razor is very nice, very heavyweight and well-engineered altough the short handle will take some getting used to maybe. The cream lathers insanely well and goes extremely far indeed, I'm sure it will work out much cheaper than regular stuff. It shaves perfectly perfectly smooth with no irritation (but I expect that anyway coming from a cheap plastic safety razor, new blade and all) but I quite appreciate the quality and luxury of it all, very pleased with my purchase

Try gel based rather than foam. I use a Gillette one.

One thing with gel based shaving cream it adds a nice slippery layer to your face for blade to glide off. So after you have shaven you can apply a tiny amount again and go for seconds - this time do it real quick - 1 stroke - and less pressure than the first time all over. I wouldn't shave everyday either unless you absolutely had too.

but yeah, mach 3.. it's like facial tax.

I'm completely sold on a brush (xie xie, xiānsheng badger) and cream. The lather is far more resilient and takes very little to cover the entire area needed. A nicer range of smells too. A little pampering for once!
