    Ebay woes

Just had my first bad experiance with ebay

I bought my first laptop from ebay a few years ago and is still going strong so had no hesitation buying another from there, the seller had 99.99 postive (564 exactly) and seemed to be a good price for what was listed at the time.

So after the laptop arrived the problems began, firstly there was no power adaptor with the laptop - I took this on the chin and went and sourced one so I was able to use it. Fine I thought, but no. The system will turn on but the laptop crashes frequently and gets very very hot during use, this means that at most I am able to use the laptop for an hour before it crashes to a blank screen, the battery then has to be removed and reinserted several times. Bear in mind it was not dscribed as having any faults other than a battery that wont hold charge.

I was away while the laptop arrived so didnt find out about these issues till I returned to work and tried to use the machine.

The battery will not charge (This was described in the auction) However the laptop will not even turn on unless the battery is inserted.

The final nail in the coffin was that there was an abject lie in the listing of the laptop, it was listed as having a 9600 mobility radeon video card however it has an inferior radeon 9000 - this is a gross error in this listing which caused me to purchase the laptop.

Sorry for venting guys but am seriously annoyed, have any of you had luck with paypals complaints service before?

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
    But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
    I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

Can you post the actaul content of the auction? Or possibly a link would be allowed since the auction has finished?

Sellers can be very crafty with their listings, and you have to be very careful.

Have you tried contacting the seller to complain? 9/10 times if s/he is a genuine seller you will get a refund/exchange out of them wtihout having to go though paypal - which can take months

This a copy of the auction text:

THIS ITEM WILL NOT BE SENT OUT OF THE UK, ZERO BIDDERS WILL BE CANCELLED UNLESS CONTACT IS MADE FIRST !!!

    Multivision Laptop

I am unsure what model this is, I think its the solous, anyway the specs are incredible, and yes it has a real graphics card !!! So excellent for playing games..

Laptop is in excellent cosmetic condition and screen is unmarked and has no dead pixels. It is built by Gericom, the same company that build laptops for Fujitsu Siemens, Advent etc and many other manufacturers. Please note the laptop does not run from the battery, only the mains charger, this could be to do with the battery im not sure, so ideal for a desktop replacement.

Currently running Windows XP with excel, word, outlook, word, powerpoint and publisher.

The laptop looks new and is great for MP3s, broadband, Photos etc as I said it will play most of the latest games due to the graphics, so its more than capable of doing anything else, over capable !!!!!!!

    The specs are below,

    AMD XP 2500+

    512mb RAM

    30gb Hard Disk

9600 64mb Ati Mobility Radeon Graphics

    DVD/RW Drive (DVD Burner)

    15" Screen

Happy Bidding and Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!!

On 16-Oct-05 at 15:51:53 BST, seller added the following information:

IM OPEN TO BUY IT NOW OFFERS, AS I NEED A QUICK SALE, DUE TO THIS ITEM BEING RELISTED FOR THE 2ND TIME DUE TO SCAMMERS AND NON PAYING BIDDERS !!

As Spud1 said.. if the seller has LOTS of good feedback, just give them a message I'm sure they will help you out. If not, then it would have to be the long way through paypal.

If the seller wont work it out with you over email, you need to take it further. Hopefully he will help, but the following might be of use to you if he doesn't want to refund you....

The laptop was not as described, and you paid through paypal, I think you could claim through the ebay "Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described Policy".

Firstly, go here http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...rformance.html and have a read.

and then here http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/inr-snad-process.html and choose to open a 'item not as described' dispute. http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayIS...rCreateDispute

You will need to submit the item number. And it needs to be done within 10-60 days of the original sale. I have never been past this stage but I have heard it's a slow process.....

As someone already mentioned, the ebay forums are a good place to go too, or even ebay 'Live Chat' - where you can ask someone in realtime http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/...&site=16485391

    Good luck!

Paypal link in case you need it : https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/we...plaint-outside

This laptop wouldn't happen to have any Sony branded materials with it would it? I'm thinking it may be a Vaio or something thats just been rebranded, although I don't know how likely that is...

Over the last few years, my company has bought about 6 Vaio laptops, and so far 3 of them have all started suffering from the same problem; they start randomly rebooting after a few months of use, which gradually turns into random shutdowns.

A little investigation after the first one completely died turned up the fact that the heatsink for the processor was absolutely cram-a-lammed with dust; precisely zero airflow. Kind of gives it away really

Similer happened with my gf's second hand lappy. Busted cpu fan so I got another for £8 and all has been good, apart from now the power supply is knackered, broken connecter.

Aye first idea was to take the housing off the CPU heatsink and have a look, but sadly all seems dandy and has very good air flow, Apparently multivison have gone bust so no support from them either

Thanks very much LunarJetman, Have started the Paypal process as the seller has yet to respond to my repeated emails, Fingers crossed as this was my christmas treat for myself after a crap year at work.

Great News!! - Paypal must have prodded him into action as I recived no emails from him

The seller has offered to provide a full refund once you return the item in its original condition.

Awsome! Thanks for the help/sympathy guys
