    ISPs ordered to reveal software file-sharers

    But should they, surly doing so would break the data protection act in this country, in which case could the customer not sue the ISP for sharing there private data? These laws should be ablsolute afterall, otherwisre a wave of court orders to dodge them could leave all the data we intrust in systems at risk.

    There is no argument that sharing of software in not illegal but the long term implications of ISP’s handing out details when requested could lead to a new wave of government snooping on internet users.

    Section 29 (3) of the Data Protection Act states that personal information can be released for the "Prevention & Detection Of Crime" therefore ISP's are covered from breaching the DPA.

    Yes and you don't think thats deliberate?. But on a related note its not half as bad as the Law Suit AT&T are facing for Illegally opening up all call records to the NSA in the states...

    Looking at the american legal system is a bit like looking into the UK's future it makes me want to cry.
