well, i think that some americans are ok - the liberal, thinking americans. i hate the ones who follow authority like they got a cattle-prod up their arses or the idiots giving orders and ruling like modern-day fascists. i also despise the war-mongering ba*tards who feel it is their right to invade a country under false pretences just to sustain the future oil supply back home. also, the intolerance of other cultures or nations right to uninfluenced national decision making. the politicians are only bothered with money and power, as are a large amount of amerikkkan 'patriots', who follow each and every law and persecute those they see as doing wrong in their eyes.
sorry for rant, rather mashed. peace mr american.

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question
2 things i hate the most - xenophobia and the french

IMHO, the Americans are fine apart from 2 main things that SOME of Americans have (always exceptions) -

    1. They are TOO patriotic. Let me explain - its great being patriotic, hell I come from a country thats pretty patriotic (Scotland) altho you would not tell this from Scottish ppl until in a situation that calls for it i.e. its subtle but strong patriotism

Thats the difference between Americans and Scots and its the reason I explained about our patriotism above to help show this.

Anericans take patriotism to a new level or, in other words they are BLINDED by it to usch an extent that they fail to see past their own country.

    Brings me to point 2

2 - A lot of Americans think the USA is the centre of the universe and shut themselves off from the rest of the World. Please dont mention the Iraq thing, if Sept 11th didnt happen then the Americans would still be in their cosy "US of A" and nothing would have happened (most likely)

AS I SAY - This is NOT generalising all Americans but its an overall view I have of most and I fully accept there is a LOT of Americans that are not like this at all.... I hope to find this out personally by visting my 2 lots of relatives I have in America at some point....

I have to agree with the over-Patriotism of alot of Americans I have encountered.. I'm also from quite a patriotic country (Greece), but I have noticed that some/rather a few Americans seem to think that being American makes them better than anyone else.

It's hard to describe without sounding xenophobic or anti-american

well, on the whole I guess its the complete lack of ignorance a great deal of americans have towards the rest of the world. I see you have traveled therefore know about the existance of other cultures, their behaviour and attitudes towards certain aspects of life which in your mind may seem strange, indeed disgusting, and yet are a normal function of their lives.
This cannot be more highlighted by the evnts in the middle east. a largely US force charges into a country - kills hundreds of innocents and manages to kill people on their own side (not the most intelligent thing to do) and then wonder what to do now US forces are being targetted out there. you see them on the telly walking around in the dest fully lubed up with NBC (chemical weapon suit) and hard hats, guns they can hardly carry and the intelligence of a dust-mite. they employ mob-tactics to get what they want and if anyone disagrees they play the spoilt brat and don't talk to them (i.e. Cuba).
its the fear of their own country becoming too open to the rest of the world and other concepts not born in the US that is ultimately its own down fall. In my mind Sept 11 was always on the cards at one point or other, it was going to happen. nd the reaction of america to simply go and 'attack saddam' has no real grounds - saddam is not linked to al qaeda in any way save a 'well done for that osama'...
american foreign policy is hostile in my mind. Ok so living there you see 'how wonderful our troops are for going in and killing everyone, yeah go get 'em tigers'...
    but thats not entirely true.
I think a great deal of deviance is going on - take for example the case an american (very low ranked officer) who claimed a british commanding officer mistreated iraqi captives. I mean - why? I've seen pictures of no less than six, yes 6, armed american soldiers jump onto a skiny iraqi man who was trying to cross a road to his mum/woman- they shout, yes SHOUT at him but he doesn't speak english so they rush him, they start smashing him up with their rifle butts and take him away. several hours (and beatings) later he is released with no charges save a broken face. . . wonder why everyone else is angry at them?
i saw a news bulletin of an attack on an american convoy. the camera man ducked out of the way just in time as a bullet took the back out of the head of one of the locals next to him - on the OTHER side of the road to the attack. its not the sort of thing you want to see while eating your dinner.
its clear the US did NOT plan this part of their iraqi campaign and its a shambles.

the actions of the US in iraq has definitely affected a lot of people's views over here in england. all we get each day is "another US convoy attacked, x-y-z US soldiers killed..." its actually quite sad to see people getting killed for supposedly doing something good, leaving us questioning WHY? what gives these people reason to lash out?
how is their performance reflected in the people of the US?

I went to the US a long time ago - '96 - and stayed away from big towns, mainly in central america (wyoming, montana,washington,idaho,oregon...) VERY nice part of the world geographically speaking and the people there are very laid-back which was very nice. so on that front I'd have to say its very nice.

america, nice in the wilderness, not so nice foreign policy...

Yes, the language the americans speak, we invented it stop ruining it

Football is a game where you kick a ball around with your feet hence the name foot ball, you do not pick it up and run at your over padded mates with it, American football = Rugby but the players are to soft and need padding

/end rant, there are a lot of americans i like, most are great people however there are a few that need to be locked away for the good of the world, *Cough* George "Duh?" Bush *Cough*

p.s. i never said saddam was a nice man, I just said mob tactics aren't always the best. and the US, the majority of what we see anyway, appears very xenophobic therefore become over patriotic which a lot of people here find extremely tiresome and often threatening behaviour - thus tend to avoid...

oh and I think hollywood is a good thing. so is star trek in small doses after 6pm

True, the Americans know how to make good films and TV, and where would we be without fast food?

A great deal healthier tbh. Theres a very good reason why a disturbing percentage of americans are obese and fast food combined with lack of any exercise is it. Before anyone points out that i probably consume loads of fast food myself, your right, i do and i realsie that probably makes me a hypocrite.

Wna make some quick cash sue MuckDonalds because their meat and chips fried in fat turned out to be unhelathy after all and the fact that the "restaurant" was ther just encouraged be to order four sos and egg MuckMuffins

92% of Americans do not have a passport. That sort of annoys me.

    Er, what else.

    The Kyoto Protocol.
    The size of arms exports.
The number of nuclear weapons they have
The biological weapons they continue to make
The fact that they generate 25% of the worlds pollution
The way they ignore free trade agreements and put levies/subsidies on whatever they want
    Enron
The amount of influence money can buy you in politics - the party funding system is utterly sick
The fact that they ignore the international criminal court
    Guantanamo Bay
    Fox News

I could go on. This is my specialist subject if I ever go on Mastermind
