Well, the EU isn't ALL bad after all...

EU to get tough on roaming charges

Mobile phone operators in Europe could be forced by the European Union to cut the expensive fees customers pay for calling while abroad.

The European Commissioner for Information, Society & Media, Viviane Reding, will outline her plan at a meeting with national regulators today.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4 she said travellers were being penalised by "fantasy costs" for roaming.

She plans to cap overseas roaming costs at the level of a cross-network call.
    Yippeeeeeee!

Won't come into effect until 2007-2008, though.

They might be all well and good with stuff like this, but they do not have a clue when it comes to things like pints of alcoholic drinks, milk carton sizes and food weights.

I don't have a problem with standardising things like that, making it an arrestable offence to sell fruit (for example) in imperial measures is stupid though.

Roaming calls: They have been speaking about this for ages now, there was something on Jonny Walker on Radio2 a couple of months ago. The thing is though, EU calls are not nearly as bad as some others. Calling from Egypt cost me £1.20 a minute, and thats with the international discount i get with my tarrif. Recieving calls was either 90p or £1 a minute.
