What would be a better solution would be the option to block all numbers that withhold their Caller ID. But admitedly they may stop some genuine calls, like for banks etc. But then i would not mind that either
Can you register mobile numbers on this service aswell? I keep getting an 0870 number ringing me at varying hours

The Telephone Preference Service can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of live marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages. This is because under the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2004 it is unlawful to send an unsolicited sales and marketing text message. Telemarketing companies who send SMS messages need your prior permission. There is no obligation therefore for companies sending SMS messages to people who have agreed to receive them, to screen against the TPS file. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, please send an 'opt-out' request to the company involved.
Ah, thanks - just got thrown when it asked for a Post Code
TPS worked for us too, but it took about 2 or 3 months before the calls went down. We still get one every month or so, but it was better than the few a week we used to get.
I like freaking the caller out by saying something stupid like...
Cold caller: Good evening sir...I'm calling on behalf of T-Mobile UK, are you interested in upgrading to a brand new T-Mobile, mobile phone?
Me: No...<sigh>I'm scared of mobile phones...<pretend sobbing>
Cold caller: Might I ask why?
Me: The last one I had burnt half my face off <pretend sobbing>
Cold caller: O...kay, nice talking to you sir, bye bye now... :|
Me: Thanks for listening... <Pretend sobbing>
Never fails me, although I only get the odd cold call a month, it IS still a laugh however
Another game is to repeat exactly what the cold caller says...
Or say that they have reached the Ministry of Defence and that their number has been successfully traced and a special taskforce is on their way to the cold caller's location...
I do agree with Elmo-chan, they are just doing their jobs so I think its grossly irrational to throw a wobbly at them; for some people it may have been the only job they could get and they may be working to live so do think about it next time...
Oh and besides, I think having to say the same line over and over again for eight hours a day for the whole week for a pitiful amount of money is punishment enough should they require punishment...
Good hunting people...

It has worked brilliantly for me. Don't forget that there's a junk mail preference service too which works equally well. I live in a rented flat and all the mail to the woman who was in the place before us has completely dried up since I put her name and my address on the block list.
As for those who enjoy abusing call centre staff- they're almost certainly on minimum wage and hate their jobs, so it's not big and it's not clever. I find that one of two lines always works- "I'm unemployed and I have no money" or "this place is rented so it's nothing to do with me".
Have to agree it's worked excellently for me and if somebody does ring its just a case of mentioning the fact we've registered with tps and they apologise and hang up. Mps the mail service work as well less junk mail through your door.
