pretty much every race or ethneticity have been slaves at some point or other in time!

Its like the whole reperations debate, i'm trying to think of the name of that really anoying prominant american spokesman on reperations.

Bollocks do people who are multiple generation away from the abused, deserve reperations.

Racism now adays tends to only excist because people choose it too. People always want to descriminate, i think it must be natural as you see it in <5 year old kids, but people tend to that on other things, like dress, education, accent. Rather than colour.

Dunno about binbags, but my gf works in a secondary school in wales & they're not allowed to refer to the blackboard as a blackboard...has to be a "chalkboard" oddly enough whiteboards are still whiteboards....PC madness tbh & something which perpetuates the idea that there are fundemental differences in the way in which people of different races should be treated...
If a man talks in a forest & there's no woman around....
    Is he STILL wrong?

And while we're on, how about job applications that ask your ethnic background? Do what? Yes, I know you have an equal opportunities policy but employing someone BECAUSE they're from a 'minority group' is as bad as attending a BNP rally.

It's condescending and discrimanatory and unfair.

My age, colour and ethnic background should have no bearing on whether I can do a job or not.
Does it ever actually come to this? I was under the impression that this information was not allowed to come into play when deciding on who to employ, merely to ensure that a company isn't refusing a bunch of people interviews/whatever based solely on ethnicity. They need to keep this info to cover their backs in case anyone accuses them of racism - dunno about anyone else but I struggle to remember someone I met for an hour 2 weeks later, never mind 6 months or whatever if it comes to a court case!

Apologies that my response is a tad late, and if I've misinterpreted, but that's my view.

As for Halle Berry, lotsa good points. Maybe she hard a tough paper round?

There is, it's called the Coutry Music Awards. Everything else is rooted in black music

    From wwtdd.com:

Halle Berry used to pray she would be "cured" of being black and dreamed of finding a pill to turn her skin white when she was a child. Halle says,

"Being a black woman I've struggled with that my whole life - feeling that if I changed, my life would be better."

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that Halle does in fact remember that her mom is white. Because everyone else in Hollywood sure as hell does. And stuff like this is why people really don't like her. Her official website probably does anything but help. Halle, if you want to say you look black, that's fine, but don't say you are black. That's like me saying I'm Batman. I'm not Batman, okay, these are just pajamas. What? I wear the cape because it's comfortable.

    That's not really my point...

My point, made obliquely I'll admit, was that it appears that society deems it perfectly acceptable to celebrate a racial distinction (in this case, mucis with BLACK origins) but if it were something with WHITE origins the PC brigade would be spitting their Humous sandwiches out in desperation to e-mail the Guardian and complain.

I think the acutal subject of Halle Berry's moaning is how it's so tough being a woman AND black.

Well, judging by the responses in this thread alone, non of us white males gives a toss that she's black, we still think she's as sexy as hell (even if I personally think she has a few loose cans rolling around in her attic)... so it's not a question of race from the non-black camp...

And her problem with being a woman? Well I don't see the majority of other women in her profession moaning about being a woman, unless, in some way she's trying to imply that being black AND a woman is a much worse hardship than just being black... but then we've already shown that we don't care that she's black, so that's that negated...

In that case we should run that on the target shooting range for the NRA... Country Music is Ebola with notes in...

Flippant remarks aside, I have to say I agree with you. Black or white is a non issue to a lot of people these days: she acted well, she got an oscar, it's really that simple.

There we have to disagree I'm afraid, I like my Diana Krall, 80s electropop and classic rock but I'm also partial to some good ole **** kickin' country* .

I think in America racial tension is still rife but not overtly like before, for example the "N" word is probably the word that can cause the most taboo in the dictionary in America whereas its not really in the minds of most people overhere.

I don't think theres any need for a black person to keep having to say I won this for black people etc. I think it'd be a better thing for them to say, "study hard and you too can achieve great things", and in case you were wondering, I am black .

I don't really see myself as black, more a British citizen and I don't see other people from other races as their race as I REALLY do judge individuals by what they say do and think.

That said, theres always a time to discriminate etc. but thats another topic.

The bottom line is, black people and white people have lived together for so long now that it seems silly to try and make ourselves seem better or more deserving of good things than white people as this will fuel / rekindle old hatreds and before you know it the past is repeating itself.

    Well said

A person is a person is a person..

Where the problem lies is that if you then call a person a twerp, you're then immediately branded a racist, which is just plain silly.

If someone is a twerp it doesn't matter what their colour or creed is, they're still a twerp..

I think Ms. Berry has just been in Hollywood too long and it's made her go a bit loopy..
