    Paypal fees

Hello, I was just wondering if someone could tell me more about Paypal fees in the UK.

I had a look at their "help", and it just says that withdrawl cost nothing if it is over £50, and it also cost nothing if you have a personal account (i.e. less than £1500.00 transaction per month).
So does that mean that it would cost me nothing at all to receive payment from someone as long as I stay within that limit?
I sometime see people charge paypal fees on Ebay. But there is no reason for me to do so if I am not a big seller, is that right?

    Cheers.

    No, wrong.
You will get charged 2%, I believe, of any transaction from the final fee paid to you. So, if you sell something on eBay for £10, you will only receive £9.80 in to your paypal a/c as paypal take the 20p (2%) transaction fee.
Hence you see people charging for PayPal.....personally, I don't charge extra for using PayPal, as it puts people off the sale.

You can receive payment free if you have a personal account. But if it is under £50 then it will cost you 25p to put it into the bank.

Also - if somebody pays you via credit card then you need a Premium account/Business account.

PayPal charges Premier and Business accounts to receive payments. Personal accounts are free, but may not receive debit or credit card payments.

The debit card bit has to be wrong (I know you quoted, not having a go), because it makes no sense.

When I used to have a Personal account I received debit card payments just fine - credit cards I didn't.

Im sure I've read on ebay's site that you cannot pass the buck on paypal charges to the winning bid . . . at least, you're not supposed to say as such - just means people hike the postage cost a small bit.

Electronic Money Services: Sellers who accept electronic money services as a means of payment for an item purchased on eBay may not impose a surcharge. Electronic money services include, but are not limited to, services such as PayPal, Nochex, FastPay or Moneybookers.

Not that this is actually enforced, there are far too many people that pass the buck and state so . . .

Use a personal account as your main one. Setup another account, "upgrade" it to a business one. Use this one for people who insist on using Credit/Debit card, stating they have to pay the fees. Can’t be sure if this strictly within the rules. I use a different bank account for each.

Could you please elaborate on that a little? What do you mean by not receive debit/credit card payment? What can I receive then?

Is there anyway I can arrange to be paid via Paypal so that it incurs no charge to me?
E.g. If I just sold something for £105, could the user just add £105 to his Paypal account via debit/credit, then send it to my account? Would that ensure that neither of us are charged fees?

you cannot recieve card payment basically means the funds for the buyer's account MUST come from their bank account.

What's the point in getting a basic account, since the premiere one is also free to set up and make payments.. then you may as well just go with that (plus other people can pay you )

Because as soon as you have a premier account they hit you for 2% of everything, not just 2% of everything from a credit card.

I tend to factor that into postage costs, usually put about 4% of what i think the item will go for onto the postage in order to make it up.
