I wonder if you could put it into your computer and see if windows can find drivers for it on windows update, that would at least give you a name for it in the unlikely event that it can find drivers.

All SCSI hardware has inbuilt drivers for Windows so it would detect it straight away
    Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ

Think I found it. See (http://www.nokytech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20328) (in french). Contains a link to a photo at . It also lists the cards:
    [s][g]Cartes Serveurs[/g][/s]
    http://assoslens.free.fr/tof/cartes.JPG
de gauche a droite (puis de haut en bas)
    - Carte raid PCI SCSI longue triple canal a base de chip adaptec AIC-7880P et de processeur IBM PowerPC 403GCX
IBM ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter => 150€
    - Carte PCI Intel Landesk Server Manager Pro (carte boite cable) (jamais utilisé) =>300€
    - Rack SCSI pour compaq (3 pièces) [#f00e00](25€ / pièce)[/#f00e00]
    - Fond de cage SCSI : en entrée connecteur 68 pins + connecteur molex sortie 4 SCA (1 pièce) [#f00e00](25€ / pièce)[/#f00e00]
Translated from left to right (then top to bottom)...

That makes your card a IBM ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter worth 150€ in late 2003 (assuming my french is still OK).

So do I get a prize?

IBM site with sketch of part (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...d=MCGN-44LPQC). An ebay search suggests that it might be worth something, but nobody seems to be bidding on them, proabably because they are PCI and would be bandwith limited in a real array. The part only has 3 channel (the external and interal connections overlap) and supports a backup battery.

I don't think its a handle. Some old large cases have small grooves by the hard drive bays for very long ISA/PCI cards. I believe they are from ancient history. My guess the "handle" is to move the end over so it lines up where and ISA card would have gone (ISA is a mirror image of PCI, ports are above the card instead of below). I think the point is that cards were so big they needed some extra support.

the odd thing here is that's PCI, not PCI-X. high-end RAID cards should use PCI-X

MODERN high end cards should use PCI. IBM says it uses 4MB EDO ram, not exactly new tech.

Directhex, sorry if I sounded at all condesending, just wanted to clear up what is up with it. Unfourtuneatly I think the owner of the card will be a little disappointed when he goes to sell it because of that. Other than the PCI port it seems like a high quality (expensive in everyday english) RAID SCSI controller. It mightwork fine for an enthusiat looking for a simple raid setup that has no cost on the CPU, but proably couldn't handle the huge arrays pumping huge amounts of data for a server.
