    Unfair seller on ebay? help

Hi guys I wonder if you could advise me on a recent ebay incident I've had?

Upon winnin an item I rang to arrange the £40 courier option this seller has included in the listing. However the seller now demands additional fees 150% higher than the original charges resulting in a new figure of £102! As I have stated to the seller I would be happy to pay the £40.00 as stated on the listing (there is no indication this is an estimate) and for the unanticipated extra charges to be included in my winning bid of £1700, I feel this to be fair considering the seller stated clearly on the listing he would be happy with a £1450 winning bid. The seller said in our conversation he was not prepared to do this (greedy me thinks).

The seller I think is going to try and file an Unpaid item agianst me but I believe the seller is being unfair and unreasonable despite my attempts, what do you think.

Report it to ebay? As far as I know, when you win the auction it becomes a legally binding contract between the buyer and the seller. Therefore he cannot simply add charges that there were no mention to in the listing.

I may however be wrong, but that is my understanding.

I'm fairly sure that, unless specified, he's not allowed to change the T&Cs of the auction once someone has bid.

Have a nosey on the ebay community: http://hub.ebay.co.uk/community

see what other people have said about it I guess.

Thanks guys, I'll check those links out. Matt I agree, I'm going to retract my bid and leave the appropriate feedback, which will unfortunatly tarnish his 100% positive feedback so far.

Yeah, he has no right at all to do that. Inform ebay and walk away.

The seller is probably claiming that the original £40 was an estimate he made, and he has now got a firm quote and found it higher.

Perhaps you could find a courer of your own to collect it from him, or perhaps turn up in person to collect it.

Can you post a link to the ebay sale here so we can see what sort of item we are talking about, and who the seller is.

Indeed this seems to be the case, and I would have accepted this had the listing stated the £40 to be an estimate but it doesnt and a 150% increase is not really acceptable. I did suggest he check the potential courier charges for future items he sells on ebay before stating exact figures in the final listing.
Perhaps you could find a courer of your own to collect it from him, or perhaps turn up in person to collect it.
To pick this item up would cost alot more money and time as it is about a 14 hour round trip and Tbh I've lost faith in this seller. I feel him to be unreasonable considering the he stated clearly on the listing he would be happy with a £1450 winning bid, got £1700 but won't subsadise the extra £60 of unanticipated courier charges. Considering the amount of money involved I no longer feel comfortable doing business with him.

How do I know your not him! lol

Picture's too small to read really unfortunately...not entirely sure what difference it would make in the extremely unlikely event that christomanci was the seller...would be nice to know what the item was and especially who the seller was, but would appear to be a very private sale then...no problem in that case.

If you think he is being unreasonable on the postage charge then it might be worth while to get a quote for the parcel yourself and then if cheaper get the courier to collect it on your behalf.

All you will need is the dimensions and approx weight to get an estimate.

I use Ebay a lot and you are allowed to reasonably alter your charges for delivery and or packaging dependant on the item. Looking at this I would say it's not "reasonable" and you could dispute it with Ebay, it takes ages though and in the meantime you don't have your item.
Threaten them with neg feedback and reporting to ebay and see if they back down.

The main problem on ebay is one persons "reasonable" is another persons "your having a bloody laugh"

1200+ rating 99.9% feedback (you just can't please everyone, I got neg feedback for not offering paypal, even though my auction clearly said this - what the heck ?)
