What the hell is this drink?

righ twell im recently back from holland, and while i was there one of my companies clients gave us peeps that had gone to see them a bottle of "Hoksebargs bitter". im dying to open it but id rather know what im letting myself in for first. anyone seen this weird stuff before? my webcam has effed up so i cant give you a pic.. however

Its 30% ABV
come in a bottle that looking at the bottom seems to be pot/ceramic type stuff
brown bottle
green label with a picture of a church on it.
reading the back (all dutch) seems to suggest its been around since 1188.
screw cap
doesnt sound particularly thick consistancy from th4e sloshing coming from inside.
weird logo, red shield with a jewish style yellow star in it, yellow crown above

come on peeps, i wanna try it tonight!

noooooo thats not an answer! i got some beauteeeeeful vodka from duty free so im pepped and ready to try, just need a clue what it is!



thats the last weird stuff i tried. tasted like cough medicine (the alcoholy one with the yellow label) but S*** did it get you wrecked. so im not a beginner at weird stuff

I imagine it will taste like john smiths with a hint of petrol. I'm presuming bitter means the same in dutch as in english

nope it really doesnt. that stuff pic'd above had never seen "Bitter" it was kinda winey but with caramel n liqurice (sp?!) in it

It's more than likely one of those bitter liquor drinks. My guess is that it'll taste not too dissimilar to Jagermeister.

At 30% one would assume it is most likely a liqour type but possibly a port , just try it out and let us know!

Absinthe is awesome stuff. I once got a labradour stuck in a tree when drinking absinthe, if it can make things like that happen it's good stuff.

almost certainly medicinal bitters.
jaegermeister is one example of that horrible ****e. chuck it on the fire.

its evil evil stuff, my mates mum brought some 85% proof stuff back from south africa so we tried it on xmas eve, i really cant remember much, i can remember getting thrown off a chipmunk on a spring at the local park by an irate parent

i think this is the same type of stuff as an international student gave us once.

It was like vodka, but beery.... only way to describe it.

packed a bit of a hang over punch, but that was probably because we had been mixing our drinks a little.

there's only one brand of "real" absinthe available (Jade Liqueurs), since all the companies that used to make it pre-worldwide-ban forgot the techniques. now it's just green vodka with wormwood in it. see http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/1...the&topic_set=

My dad had some Bells whisky given to him maybe 30 years ago, but doesn't drink it. Well he found it the other day and said i can have some, its 70% abr so very strong stuff, just wondering if anyone else has seen whisky these days at 70%...maybe its common but i looked around sainsburys and didn't see any whisky over 40%

*edit* it IS still safe to drink after 30 years, right?
