R.I.P Will be missed
R.I.P Will be missed
sad loss for his family.
i am surprised that it wasnt a snake or a scorpion or something that killed him, not surprised that it has finally happened though.
It's such a shame. I loved watching him do crazy things with animals
such a shame to see him go, what a legend.
was just talking about him the other day, he will be missed by many
yer he was a great entertainer, and really cared about preserving the environment so its a big loss
Rip
Its a shame, but not a surprise. His approach to filming really made this or a serious injury to happen sooner or later. I have never really liked these 'animal bothering' programs because of the way the wildlife is treated. Still a sad loss and he certainly did a lot for a much maligned creature.
Not around too often!
Use to love watchin his shows. R.I.P
While at times I thought he was crazy, he was still a wonderful personality and a great entertainer. He'll definitely be missed.
RIP Matey
I don't really agree with people saying this was inevitable. He dedicated his life to these animals, he was a professional who knew what he was doing and I don't think he would ever do anything that would put him in real danger. This was a terrible and freak accident, Wikipedia says only 2-3 other cases of stingray deaths have ever been recorded.
Agree with Norky. He was a professional and knew his reptiles very well.
It was a very tragic and freaky accident.
He was an entertaining character and will be sadly missed and thoughts are with his family.
RIP steve

a huge loss to everyone, he could turn a seemingly boring situations to life and a great entertainer appealing to all ages
my thoughts are with his friends and family - he was one of the true legends

With ref to my comment.....well, I apologise to anyone who took that badly or was offended. I'm sad that a human being is dead, and I agree some of his natural history work was superb. I just think that David Attenborough, and David Bellamy were vastly more "animal friendly" in their way's of promoting the beauty of nature.
I won't edit it, as people won't be able to see what I said, making them ask after it again.
Once again, sorry if anyone was hurt by what I said. Maybe it was wrong. Obviously, by the pm's and posts, I offended some people with that one. Didn't mean too.
The rare incidence of deaths by the horrible means that he met his maker are actually the thoughts behind my statement though (though clearly I should have been softer spoken and less antagonistic)...it is clearly very hard to be killed by such a creature, and I shudder to think of what antics he was up to to incur such wrath. Having seen him with various other deadly animals, and the frankly outrageous states of excitements he got them into, it really caused me to think badly of him, rather than to pity him, which I should I think.
I stand by the fact that I don't believe that ultra stressed dangerous animals make good TV. In fact, while I openly admot to having watched him, I also point out that he made me shudder, and with such superb telly over the last 30 years of animals and wildlife going before, I wonder why it was felt so good to wind up animals that just needed sedating and moving out of harms way, or filming from afar.
One more time though...sorry to anyone offended by my statements.

A friend referred to Steve as the Croc Botherer, a name that I personally find extremely fitting. I find nature interesting enough without watching some bloke prodding it.
Still its a pity he had to die at that age, and leave his young family
