When my nose was broken, it collapsed inwards, (due to someone stamping on my face) so I had to go under general anaesthetic for a "pull through" procedure. I guessed this entailed pulling it back upwards and into it's original place, but it never seemed any different to me afterwards. There were no chisels, or re-breaking invovled since it was done soon enough after the break that it hadn't set.
The worst thing about it was spending time in the ear, nose and throat ward. It was full of people with cancer having their lungs drained etc. It was pretty nasty. On the plus side, one of the nurses was pretty tasty.
