Contact Lenses - Anybody buy them online?

Just wondering if anyone buys contact lenses online.

Where do you shop? - Which do you think are the best? / Most comfortable but last the longest, etc etc.

www.lensplanet.com is the cheapest i found for monthlies. i buy 02 optix ones £12.75 for 6 lenses and very comfortable...apparently they let in the most amount of oxygen. But i was going to try J&j's hydra clear as they have UV protection as well as letting in the same as amount of oxygen as o2 optix. They are £13.75 for 6 lenses @ lens planet.

Also, buy ASDA's cleaning solution - £15 for 6 months and free delivery if you order online.

I used to get them from my optician. I would always go to him to see what he recommends, then get them online. Just got these new ones on trial, they are designed to stay in your eyes for 30 days, yes you sleep with them in, although I wasn't recommended to go 30days with them in! Have had them in my eyes for 48hrs and they were great. Get the box this week so I'll tell you what they are called.

@ Stringent: I gave my opticians a ring and they wanted me to pay them £25 to get an interview checked in or something. And then they want me to pay via direct debit every month to get a discount.. I asked them to send me my prescription though.

I should keep my gob quite about my opticians anyway because one of the people who work there is a hexus member!

Oh just a quick question.. when your buying them, do you buy a box per eye (if you have one eye different to the other) or do they package them up into one box for you?

Edit: So if it says 6 lenses per box.. you need to buy 12 really, so you get the right type for each eye?

I had laser eye surgery with Ultralase 3 weeks ago. If you have the capital, I'd highly recommend it. I went for the cheapest package and had £200 discount off that for giving my details via their website. So it cost me £1790 in total.

The results for me are fantastic, btw.

Well it's still sort of an experimental procdure.. nobody really knows the results of long time eye surgery so I wouldn't want to try that. Besides I don't have the money anyway

I use Specsavers since they send me 3 sets of lenses every 3 months for £10/Month and if I ever lose a lens whilst away I just find the nearest shop and they'll give me a new set free, which is nice to know.

I'd quite like Laser surgery but it's too expensive for me at the moment and too new to risk going on the cheap, what Theo paid sounds about right.

I use www.contactlenses.co.uk, for one day acuvues.

Mum has used Tesco's though, which came out about £8 cheaper. So i might give them a go next time.

I wear daily disposables because they are generally better for your eyes as it's a fresh pair everyday... (to quote my optician) no hassle when you go away / work either as they are individually packaged and you can just keep a spare pair in your bag / wallet for any emergencies! (no bottles of solution lying around). You also only pay when you wear them, meaning that you can make a months box last a month and a half if you don't wear at weekends etc (and wear glasses instead of course... also reccommended for keeping eyeoles healthy) I've worn daily disposables since 1997.

Theo what type of laser surgery did you have lasik or lasek. I take it that it
incorperated wavefront. Were you long or short sighted? and how bad.

How bad were your eyes and what has it been improved to (or havent you had
a retest yet?)

Ive been thinking about it but it still worries me, I have seen prices vary a lot
I think i have seen £300 per eye. Its hard to know what the right balance on
price is. I wonder how much you go up to before you are just getting over
charged due to fear.

Yes, each pack is one eye for 30 days so you will need to order a 30 day pack for each eye (in the corresponding strengths...)

e.g. i buy 3 packs -3.00 and 3 packs -3.25 to last me 3 months.

So in theory your paying £26 instead of £13?
(£13 for one eye, £13 for the other)
