    how much does a website cost these days

    made 2 websites for a client 1 is a simple 8 - 10 page html site with a custome banner and template. the second is a zen cart skin which i am going to fully setup for the client and add all his products. was talking to him about price but i dont actually knw how much websites cost these days he is paying for hosting so how much would u charge

    Well it's all based on effort. Some people use a rule of thumb that you work out how long it took you (Hours) and your rate (say £10 per hour or whatever), then double it for other costs (office space, capital investment, equipment, profits etc). Then if you're taxable, add on VAT after that.

    However it would be better if someone on here knows the going rate for that kind of site. The last site we sold at the company I work for totted up to a shade under a million quid at last count, but I don't think your client would be pleased!

    hmm ok might charge this guy less tho cos he is first customer and ill be using his sites in portfolio. then after i dont these setup a website with proper prices on.

    Something is only worth what a person is willing to pay. Go for £120. Get a testimonial from him too. You REALLY should agree a cost before hand, I've been screwed over in gigs and websites from not doing this.

    (The trick there is to make sure YOU register the domain name in YOUR name until launch! )

    err when its done u can lol atm one needs all the content added and a few problems ironed out and the zen cart is just taking time to code. ill post when i finish them

    im ok at design coding is the part i struggle with atm but im getting the hang of it jsut been changing wat script i use used to use mambo/joomla then os commerse then cp commerse now zen cart and its ahrd getting used to the different skin styles and template setups

    I'd say £185 is reasonable, say it's introductory offer to make them feel special. Might even get referrals.

    Make sure you've set aside what you'll actually be responsible for as well. (Maintenance for a year, frequent updates to the site, implementing new sections?) and agree on a rate for that as well if applicable.
