    animals matter to me?

Help us achieve global recognition that animals matter, that they can feel pain and can suffer and that we have a responsibility to put an end to cruelty around the world. We seek 10 million signatures to let the governments of the world know we are serious about achieving a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the United Nations.

I support action against cruelty to animals, but I don't think an internet petition is the best way to go about it. Sure use the net but use it to get people to print off petition forms and get genuine signatures that can at least be mostly verified as unique by a handwriting expert. Then get them to post them all back to a central point.

I can just see you getting all these millions of signatures, then taking them to a government who'll say "Yeah but you could've done half of them yourself, or even written a program to do it automatically". If you're going to fight hard you'll need physical proof.

I'm not having a go, I'm just trying to point out something to help.

I work at a pharmaceutical company. When I applied for the job of Systems Analyst/Helpdesk Support I didnt think of the possibilty of animal testing. It just didnt cross my mind. So when I did actually get the position I was told about the animal rights activists who come round every now and then to say their peace.

Now ive been told that the company no longer does tests on animals but they have done in the past. If they asked me in the interview what do i think of animal testing I would have said I didnt agree.

Now even though I am working for the company im not sure if it makes me a hypocrite or not even though they have said they dont test on animals.

So yes they have my signature.

has anyone actually read the site? its a joke. not as in its fake or anything. its just a joke.

An estimated 80% of power input on farms in developing countries is supplied by draught animals, however the resources made available are often woefully inadequate, leading to significant welfare issues.
OH IM SORRY I GUESS THE DEVELOPING COUNTRY CANT PROVIDE THE LIFE YOU WANT THEM TO FOR THERE ANIMALS BECAUSE THEY CAN ONLY DREAM OF IT FOR THEMSELVES.

I work in pharmaceutical R&D, all new drugs and chemicals have to be tested on animals, its the law. You will find that the testing is outsourced to a 3rd party, maybe HLS. This makes your company, and you a target for activists.

Did you know that most drug effects work the other way round on cats? Aparently heroin makes them high. I hardly see the point in animal testing if it doesn't even work properly! Signed.
    With love and many thanks,

    Oh dear....

Im a medicinal chemist (PhD) and have my own views on animal testing. I wont sign this petition though, this is more akin to the chain letters of old.

Maybe thats why cats are not routinely used for testing drugs then.
