They will squeek if the toe in is wrong. For disc brakes the usual cause is a miss-alighned frame or fork. There is a specal tool that your bike shop can use to re-face the disc brake tabs on your frame or fork if you have that problem.

QFT. If you feel that you don't have the control or stopping power that you would like with your current set up then upgrade. If you feel you have adequate brakes then don't bother and either save the cash or spend it on something (or someone) else. But disc brakes are certainly a big bonus especially if you are old enough to remember the under chainstay U-brake.

OR.. you can dab a bit of copper-slip on the BACK of the brake pad, and that'll stop the squeakage. I love my Hydraulic discs... much more control over the amount of braking you're doing. Although my rear caliper needs flushing out & re-filling cos it's started boiling.....

I think you need to emphasize the word BACK a tad more Tumble

I've never tried a set of cable operated disks that feel good. They all feel notchy, and mechanical with poor modulation.

tbh, its not worth spending 200 quid on a set of hope minis on a cheap hardtail. because there just isnt imo, i would buy either some aivid v brakes or shimano xt/xtr, or some magura hydraulic rim brakes hs33 i had some on my jump bike awesome and for 100 quid they rival any disc brakes for the same price range and the only thing i would buy over them would be decent discs eg, hayes, hope which are more like 200.

Does the bike even support disk brakes. I currently use a pair of Hayes HFX DH 8" front and rear with goodridge pads and hose. I would never look back to v brakes. Iv heard good things from the new Avid brakes.

he said in the post at the beginning that the hubs where disc hubs. avid have always made good brakes tbh. but i really dont think its worth it on a low end bike tbh, just get some decent v's.

I would rate my Magura Raceline hydro's along with any disk set i've used for trials riding.

He actually has only said the hubs and wheels support disc nothing about frame and fork supporting discs.

I've got really old (2000) Hope 2-pots on both ends... The front one dumped all it's juice about a year ago when I had a nasty crash and managed to open the bleed nipple... gawd knows how, so that's been refilled, but the rear one hasn't had anything done to it since new, so the fluid's probably mighty manky by now....

And if you're worried about me braking style.. front's on it's 4th set of pads, rear's only on the second
