I'm on the radio today (Wednesday 1st November)

Yep, my 'expertise' has been asked for once again by BBC Radio Ulster for the Stephen Nolan show.

If you want to listen in, I'm slated to be on around 9.50am... for those of you in Ireland, tune into 94.5FM and everyone else can clik the link to listen over IP:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland...hennolan.shtml

    And the topic?

Are video games influencing youngsteres and the way they behave?

Specifically, is Need For Speed Carbon causing kids to go out joyriding?

If you have any thoughts or comments on the above topics, post them in here as I'd quite like to get a spectrum of views and perhaps even mention them on the show.

I will be conducting an autograph signing session at a date to be arranged..

Jeez Harry, it's in my original post which, for some odd reason, you had to quote?

The bit about listening over IP and the link, might that be a clue on how to listen to it if you're not in NI?

I dont think NFS encourages joyriding any more than GTA encouraged carjacking.

If only Nitrous refills where a matter of tailgating osmeone for a bit ,it'd make life so much cheaper

Compare it with movies - did the fast and furious: tokyo drift lead to lots of people trying to drift Evo's then remembering they where 4wd and stacking it into a tree ?

'Excessive' game playing will influence people behaviour in the same way that excessive golf leads to be rather dull

    As Moby said really.

I think that computer games will influence those people who are liable to be influenced anyway, usually as a result of parents who view them, from an early age, as a replacement for parenting.

I played a fair amount of computer games, and from quite young, but I know, and was taught, what was real and what was not. To blame computer games for people's behaviour is to misunderstand the problem. Surely youngsters should know that these things do not equal real-life. If they think they do, then that is the problem, but then they are likely to think that movies and tv shows are also a good reflection of real life.

Children need to know that these are merely unrealistic representations of life, intended to be diverting for a few hours, not as a replacement for reality.

Remember , people wrote hate mail to Mrs Mangle off of Neighbours when I were a lad.... people have problems differentiating reality from fantasy.

Well that was short and sweet... just as the discussion was getting going they had to cut away as there was a big riot over there last night and they wanted to go back to that.

I know that need for speed heavily influenced me to get into joy riding - I sometimes bring a laptop along with me to bring more joy to my joy riding. Its great.

Its clearly down to the parents of the children to keep an interest in what they play, watch and what music they're listening to.

Just remember how Marilyn Manson was blamed for the Columbine massacre JUST because they found one of his albums in one of the kid's CD player.

Supposing it was Marilyn Manson's fault, its still a failure of the parents who did not pay attention to what their child was listening to, fairenough celebrities have a dutiy to know who their target audience is, but he has always said that his music is for a mature audience as his music can easily be mis-interpreted.

My point is, its not JUST video games that influence kids, its also music and what they watch on TV and of course its a lack of good quality parenting.
