Is it best to order them from the manufacturer's website (i.e. is there anywhere else that sells them for less?)
    Cheers guys
www.play.com is cheapest for all versions.

ive managed to break 13k but it was a long while ago, just tried it again and could only hit 11224.

As for losing strings, best bet is to learn to just start it up with your thumb and accelerate the gyro really fast by giving it a good whip and the quickly try and get the speed up. Takes a little of time to do it but it just makes losing strings redundant and its less hassle.

If you really wanna be stylish do that all in 1 hand.

I can never spin it fast enough with my fingers, I can only just get the leds to start lighting up (about 1k?)

But, if you want to start without string, practice at very low speeds (under 1.5k) untill you can recover it. At low speeds you cant feel where or how to move it so its a lot harder. For low speed acceleration it should make a grinding niose.

Any knocking noises, and your moving it too fast or not the right movement - thats the outer rotor changing direction.

The lcd counter is starting to annoy me a lot, its in compleatly the wrong place (+ the ball is too big and I have large hands). Im planning to make a counter using a pic 16F628 uC using a hall effect sensor to put somewhere a bit more comfortable. Will also have a bigger lcd and show just about everything all the time (if I get that far to order another lcd... fryed my last one )

Anyone know if there are a competing brand? Ideally one 50-75% of the size.

Do you guys disconnect the juice if you're not playing with your ball for a while?
I want to post a score, but can't be flipped to go and buy another battery, less than a year, and about 10 uses, since the last one.
It is possible that battery conservation has improved since I bought mine about 10 years ago,

    thread resurrection

i was just interested to know if anyone's still having fun with these things?
i bought myself one today in Argos for £12.99 and we've had quite a lot of fun today (and a lot of inuendo ) at 6th form.
only got the most basic one though, the one without a counter so i don't actually know how high i can go

    Re: Powerballs

I still use mine around 2-3 times a week.

It helps with RSI and stops my hands getting sore after monster typing sessions, but it has also improved my grip strength quite a bit

I got one a few weeks ago - managed to get it up to 10793rpm... using for about 10 minutes every day to improve stamina in my hands for MTBing (and it's working too )

Just bought myself an early Christmas present

How much noise do these things produce, out of interest?

they can produce quite a loud noise when you really hammer it, but it's not a bad noise. it's quite satisfying

EDIT: is there any kind of "nack" to getting the thing to spin up without the cord cos i just can't seem to get the speed into it
