Hardly surprising, lets just hope that the backlash in the wake of the verdict being announced does not act as a rallying cry for more violence.

this was pretty much always going to happen, however as mgh0 mentioned i hope this dosent cause a massive retaliation from suddam extremeists

^^^ This is a possibility, but bloomin 'ell it took long enough. Think about how much resources he sponged up. Almost as bad as a foreigner on an english counter-strike server....
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
TBH i think all they are doing is making him into a martor. And the troops from all the countries in the middle-east WILL feel the backlash of this. I don't see how there can be any doubt in that.
They would have been safer putting him in the jail for life with no chance of getting out early. 2 wrongs don't make a right after-all.
Just my opinion

it works both ways tho, if they kill him there will be violence, if they lock him away then there will be violence in an attempt to get him freed.

lmao
He is given the death sentance for only 148 people? what about the other thousands of people he ordered to be killed?
This whole massive war in iraq, and all the other stuff in the past (which I dont know the details of) and his fate is decided over only 148 people?
Acctually, I hope it does cause a big retaliation. It should be bush being hanged, and also us elections are coming up which is possibly why the trials are ending now...
tbh i think the trial was a total farce, never the less I agree with the verdict.
Nah Bush's administration will stay on after the elections becuase the americans are niave enough to think that the war is justified when really their county knows nothing other than war. Ever since the USA has been created they have been in some kind of conflict. They know no better and are too powerful. Im my opinion they need to be contained but no one can do it.
I'm sorry for the soldiers over there but i can say without a shadow of a doubt that there is going to be alot more body bags coming home. UK should do the right thing for a change and get their asses out of there.
If they leave, the paramilitaries in the middle east wouldnt try to attack england. The only reason they ARE being attacked or are targets is because of their close ties to america (which benifits no-one BUT america) and in doing this they are taking part in wars which they really shouldnt need to be any part off.
My opinion again

I mean when have america ever helped England? You could say the 1st and 2nd world war but truth be known america did not helped until they were attacked by the opposing army. Had it not been for that then they would never of got involved.

They probably should have stuck him back in charge. Less Iraqi's would die.
Can't really see the death penalty as a surprise here, but he should have gotten life imprisonment instead.
Well he deserves it, but there is no doubt that this will cause more conflicts and violence. Putting him in Jail would cause rescue attempts althought the rescue attempts would be pretty funny it would of just been a stupid thing to do.
I agree Britain should get its ass out of Iraq, or we will be clearing up the sh!t that will come from more terrorist attacks.
My opinion is let the Iraq Nation decide what happens to Saddam and US and UK troops get the hell out and leave them alone untill the next war.
The man's a monster who's deserved death a thousand times over.. that said, I'm intrinsically against the death penalty being very much in the two wrongs don't make a right camp..
Iraq is a mess, so is Afghanistan; both being very much a case of winning the war and losing the peace. We're definitely a target because of our ties to the U.S. (we're very much the little brother and the 'special relationship' is a product of spin over here, the Yanks have never heard of it) but having said that Osama bin Liner and all his loonies make anyone against their own world view a target. However, for Tony Blair to claim it's not made a difference the U.K.'s security is ludicrous. As johnny02004976 said, there'll be a backlash by Saddam's supporters/sympathisers/those ready to jump on any anti-Western bandwagon regardless of what happens to him.
JMHO, of course.
Very interesting that this happened 2 days before the US election when Bush's party is on the verge of loosing its majority in Congress... not that there coulbe be any connection. Hopefully we will get new leadership and the Iraq policy will become more sensible.
It was inevitable that he was going to receive a death sentence.
As a few of you have mentioned I certainly hope it will not invoke retaliation by the extremist groups. This also could lead to the coloured and foreign communities here in the UK becoming outcast even though they are everyday people that are well respected by English nationals.
I have a few friends that live locally that are typical brits regardless of their upbringing and religion. Lovely people and very close to my family, they always have time to stop and chat and are happy to see me to catch up.
I really hope they don't get victimised in the wake of what is happening.
