I agree the law should be in place but i also think that if someone wants to smoke while out having a drink or meal they should have the right to choose so i think having a smoking bar/restuarant should be allowed then you have the choice to go there or not!!
Ps i used to smoke gave up last year!!

I know you were being sarcastic, but I actually think that's a good idea, prohibition ftw! (Yes I know it would probably be bad for the economy and may cause other problems, but I think banning alcohol would stop a lot of the problems that come along on a Friday and Saturday night. And may help stop chav culture to an extent)

    Ban alcohol? WHAT?!
Beer is what made the UK the most powerful nation in the world. We then discovered tea and look at us now. Pathetic.

I don't drink so it doesn't matter to me if it was banned

htid, why should i be punished for chavs and idiots getting pissed and starting fights and vandalising when they come out of a pub? I like most people like a drink every now and again. I however dont feel then need to beat someone up, kick in someones car etc when it comes to closing time. I can agree with the smoking ban (although i do agree about the point of losing another civil liberty).

The problem with this country is that a lot of the population have no respect for each other. I am a smoker but when I go out to a restaurant I dont smoke at the table (even in smoking areas) as i dont want to upset anyone. If I want a ciggy I either go outside or have one later. Its pretty sad if you cant last a couple of hours out without needing a drag.

If the youth of today had more respect and understanding of different people there wouldnt be such a problem. Personally i think that 'drunk' loutish behaviour should be punished more severely rather than taking away the booze.

i know this rant has gone slightly off topic, but why whenever there is a problem do people feel that we should make certain things illegal rather than sort out the minority wonkers who cause all the problems?

This country needs an anti chav campaign this Xmas more than anything else. Maybe a slogan along the lines of: 'A Chav is a prick for life, not just for Xmas'.

    [End of Rant]
Well, I can cut it in half!

Funny the way it's no longer socially acceptable to smoke, but getting pissed up people don't have a problem with. Ban alcohol.

Ok fair enough tony, your idea is probably better than mine. But then again, is it really such a punishment to not be able to drink alcohol? Surely you can survive without it. But yeah ok, punish the idiots who drink rather than the people who drink sensibly. Still, how can you distinguish? (I've not really thought about this before so I know i'm most likely wrong about stuff but hey, it's just my opinion)

Even though I smoke, I too don't smoke in pubs where foods been served and even smoke outside at home rather than smell the house out.

I've been pondering giving up and now this is the final nail for me. NYE and I'll be starting to give up and with the cash I'll be saving I'll be able to afford more glowsticks for my nights out

For what reason? Does my drinking affect you in any way shape or form?
    No is the answer.

It's nto socially acceptable for smokers to affect my life span with their filthy, dirty habit. When I drink and you stand near me or in the same room does your health get affected in anyway (Unless I'm drinking stella ). No.

    Ban morons.

Steady on kid, it was just commentary. I don't recall ever having lit up cigarette anywhere near you. People getting pissed up and passing out and having intensive hospital treatment and starting fights and vandalising and generally being a nuisence is directly correlated to alcohol though, I don't recall smoking being the cause of such a great deal of strife. Sorry I forgot, you go to a pub and come home smelling of someone's filthy and disgusting habit. I mean, you went to a pub where people tend to go to drink and smoke, it's not as if you expected to inhale cigarette smoke is it?

I have never been out and got too drunk that I fell asleep in the road, I have never been out and had an alcohol-fuelled brawl. Neither have any of my friends... You have a choice. If you're an idiot and fight, chances are you do it anyway and are generally a blemish to society, you have a choice how you behave.

However, do we get a choice when inhaling filthy cigarette smoke, Do we get a choice when we wake up in the morning and stink of cigarettes and have a sore throat, knowing that we have passively smoked about 7 cigarettes?

You are always going to get the "non-smokers" having a go at the smokers of us , but what about the drinkers, drug takers? So you cant harm anyone standing drinking your pint ? What about the idiots that get behind a car wheel?. What about the rubbish thats left all over town after a weekend , vomit all over the streets, going to the toilet in doorways? ok so its not going to kill anybody, but makes them just as socially unacceptable as smokers. Now you will argue that its not the majority of drinkers that do this, but also the majority of us smokers are considerate in where and when we smoke .

    Yes.

Perhaps I should point out i'm a non-smoker too, incase you think I have some kind of inveterate disposition.
