Quit smoking after almost 10 years on the 1st of January - kinda scary as seen as I'm only 23 and was on about 10 -15 cigs a day!
It wasn't an intentional "new years resolution" more the fact that I'd been seeing less and less of a point in smoking, particularly as I've picked up rugby again since September and it takes a lot of time and effort that is just wasted by breathing in hot tar. So cold turkey it was... Found it was hard for about a week, then the cravings died down. Just did sit-ups every time I had a craving, which soon stopped me wanting any!
It's really weird how smoke smells now...
Nice going, keep it up mate
Twice - first time by substituting with snuff, which went very well. I lasted 3 months until I gave in while drunk.
Second time, I used an inhaler and patches but only lasted 5 days - giving in whilst at the pub.
On both occassions, I was under the influence of alcohol and my heart really wasn't in it. I don't drink anymore though, I have good reasons for giving up, and I'm in the right frame of mind for it now.
day 1 for me
Lapsang souchong = my secret weapon
Well it's day 5 for me and it's going well so far without a hiccup
No use of anything like patches or gums or even lollipops. I just woke up and thought today is the day, no more ciggies for me and so far I've not had a craving at all - well apart from Tuesday night when United were on and I bite the hell out of my fingernails and drank a few litres of coffee instead.
Did the 'couple of beers' test at my mates house last night and even though him and his missus were smoking, I abstained and just ate more cake
I have noticed that I am eating a bit more than normal and that sometimes I'll get very sweaty palms for about 2 minutes but I've not felt any needs to whack an axe in somebodies cranium.... but theres time yet
motivation - easy - The thought of having 150-170 pounds a month extra was the key
Well into my 8th week of not smoking following a 20 year habit. I never really had bad cravings though the pub was pretty hard for the first couple of weeks, I really did lift the glass a lot more than I would usually
I sometimes dream of my Regals though....
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
I aim to quit as soon as my exams are finished (start of june, literally the first day) as I know I wont quit over my exam times and I find nicotine so useful as a stimulant doing all nighters on my assignments
You think quiting smoking makes you drink more, and makes the pub hard?
Try quiting Fruit Machines cold turkey!
1 month 1 week now.
All that time I spent playing is now drinking time. Or playing the drums with my hands. Or Solitare on my XDA!
But seriously, I never realised how anti-social I'd become. All that time spent with Noel and the banker, or Manic Muncher is much better spent with friends, having a laugh.
(And I'm saving more than you'd believe)
I smoked 20 a day for about 2-3 years before I gave up. I don't think I went cold turkey though. I did initially but would always end up having a few puffs of a friends' ciggy.
Sufficed to say, I haven't touched them in years. At the time of quitting I was just at the gym every day though, so my diet was okay.
I'm still not smoking, but I could murder one after the morning I've had so far.
*deep breathes for 20 secs*
Ahh that's slightly better but you know this is driving me to drink as I could murder a large vodka and lucozade at the moment.
