    Nvidia 8900, eta ?

I've looked around and apart from some websites mentioning the Nvidia 8900 series back in Feb 2007 or so this seems to have dropped off of the radar ?.

I suppose with the lead they have over ATI/AMD why rush the 8900 out ?.

Does anyone think/know if we'll see it this autumn/fall, and will it have that much of an effect on current 8800 prices ?.

Pretty sure its being canned and the next high end card (G90) will be out Jan/Feb so looks like the 8800s will stay high for a while yet. Like you said, since AMD fluffed it they are not in a rush.

Doubt it would have been much more than a GPU and Memory speed increase, and nVdia's partners are already covering this well with pre-overclocked cards.

There's probably a stack of 8900 branded cards sitting in a warehouse somewhere that'll never see the light of day because they'll never been needed to compete against anything other than nVidia's own products

I heard it's coming out before Christmas? I also heard that Ati are bringing out a new range of cards? If this happen then nvidia will slice the prices of the 8800?

Depends on what/who you believe - some people are predicting some kind of upper mid-range card by the end of the year, others a full release (anywhere from November to Christmas time) of a new range with the mid-range version of it out in the Spring.. It's the usual rumour mill and until I see hard and fast benchmarks from more than one reputable source I tend not to believe anything.. I've got an 8800 GTX and am currently weighing-up going for SLI (I'm running a 2560x1600 desktop) so if I do buy one I would almost guarantee the next gen card will be out the following week!

    Good discussion here

Looking into it a little more it appears that they may be an anouncement in November about a new product (G90 ?), with availability in December 07 (ish) then mid-range cards in Q1/2 08 ?.

So we can pretty much take it as read that prices for the 8800 GTS and GTX will be static for another five months or so, unless ATI rush out any new products or manage to create amazing drivers for their current R600 ?.

So true! And let's remember, sloppy programers will undoubtedly miscode all the drivers and software in a few months time so you'll suddenly have to upgrade to the next model

Can't resist but... isn't that what nVidia have done already?
On the up side - they'll probably manage to sort the driver by the time G90 launches

I'm really hoping they won't get over-cocky with their successful 8-series to a point they forget about any innovations on the new chips. The only thing hogging me back from these cards is their power hunger, I mean ,if nVidia could trash the 'performance per watt' marketing trick and focus on making them beasts tamed then I'll start to consider their cards

Hopefully seeing there is not much pressure on NVidia just now then low power consumption may be on the cards. What else will they be working on if they're already claiming teraflop performance figures?

GDDR4 (i think the x1950xtx and some xt are currently the only cards to use this) was proposed for the 8900, i dont think the clocks where propesed to be all that much higher than the ultra (if at all)

Would have been nice to see how much difference this would have made.

Apart from the lack of competition, nvidias current cards pwn FPS on any game out there currently so it wont be tillt he strain of DX10 really shows it face that they need to do anything

Not sure how reliable this is but:

'NVIDIA says it's G92 high-end graphics card will deliver almost a teraflop of computing performance.
In an analyst webcast, Nvidian Michael Hara says that the chip will be ready for Christmas, a release cycle the company adopted with G80, where high-end products come out for Chrimbo and the mid-range and low-end products hit in the spring.'
