    Samsung 245BW or Dell 2407WFP?

    Hey guys,

My TV is on it's way out and I've decided to get a monitor/T.V in one. So I'm looking at either Samsung 245BW or Dell 2407WFP? But I'm stuck as which to pick, I obviously did some research to come to picking either of these. There isn't a lot in the price depending where you get it from. I've read reviews and both sound pretty good, but ultimately user opinion counts more. Since we're the people that use them daily. So I was wondering if any of you had one or had an opinion that would reinforce mine. I'm leaning towards the dell at the moment.

    Any advice would be awesome!

*Loving* my new Dell 2407WFP ..... superb rich picture!

Can't really compare to the Samsung though as I've never seen it. But I'm guessing you won't be unhappy if you plumb for the Dell ...

I don't actually have either of these but I have heard that the Dell is supoosed to be very good. It is what i will be upgrading to at some point.

Bear in mind though that both these are actually monitors and do not have a tuner built in to them. You would need to have a TV card in your pc and use that, unless you are connecting some sort of set top box via the other input connections.

    Cheers

Well I'm also looking for something similar, and a little research dug up the Benq FP241W. A little more expensive than the Dell, but apparently gives a slightly better picture and has better functionality for TV connections (such as maintaining the aspect ratio of the source).

Good Thread - I'm debating over exactly the same 2 TFT's. I want something that supports 1080p for console gaming and future media watching.

But I don't want something bigger as i Don't want it to be the feature of my bedroom.

Anyway does anyone know which of these monitors Supports 1:1 pixel mapping, which is probably what i'll base my final decision on?

    thanks

Samsung, Dells are way overrated. Samsung monitors use fixed ratio scaling built into the hardware.

    Dell 2407.

I had two 226bws (which use the TN panel) and I didn't like them at all. The Dell has a superior panel and I would hazard a guess as to it being the better monitor.

I've since sold the 226bws and my next purchase will be a 2407 and possibly a 20" Dell to sit alongside it.

Do not buy now, however. An updated version of the 2407 is on its way (HC) within the next month (some auction sites already have it) and this will not only mean a better monitor for a similar price, but it'll also push down the price of the regular 2407 you're looking into now.

Thanks for all the advice, I went with the Dell! WOW!! Got it from dell for £460 in the end, with a 5 year warrenty. I don't know why I didn't get a bigger screen to begin with. So my advice for anyone debating the 2 monitors is to go with the dell, give them a ring and haggle

Nice one, I recently got the 2407-HC as well, awesome monitor. My only gripes with it is the fact that 1080i/p doesn't work over component (well i works but flickery as hell)

If you're a gamer and/or love watching on movies on your pc, look beyond the Dell. I recently bought one, and there were severe ghosting & pixeling problems.

That said, if you're just looking for a nice monitor for browsing the net, using applications, etc. this is a great monitor. It looks awesome at native resolution (except for movies & fast paced games). But again, depends on what you're looking for.

Personally, I'm about to take my 2007wfp back & try out a Samsung or LG since i'm more into gaming/movies.

Sleek design is a puddle of piss if the product's functionality is substandard.

if you could get the 2407 HC for around the same price it would be well worth it much better TFT panel.
