    Passive cooled 8800GT?

    Hey Guys,

Really looking forward to this card, but as with my obsession for silence, i cant be dealing with an evil fan (especially as i do a lot of music recording). Is there any news on a passive cooled beast? Or, is it possible to modifiy one of these cards to cool with a heatsink?

    Re: Passive cooled 8800GT?

I would suspect that there will be some aftermarket 3rd party passive coolers available. Whether that is at release or not is a different matter. Some current coolers may just need a different fixing bracket.

Where can i find out more about this card? Thought the 8800 would put to much heat to allow passive cooling.

The 8800GT, new chip, new die, new manufacturing process... much less power hungry ergo, much less heat.

Sparkle are releasing a passive 8800gt. Can't post link as am first timer but visit their website. Only problem is Sparkle cards are hard to come by, at least in the UK.

    Re: Passive cooled 8800GT?

I've read in two reviews that this card is really quiet, even running hot. Though one review said it ran close to 91c!! I guess we'll just have to see about the retail ones.

Try SFPX88GT512D3-HP - SPARKLE NX8800GT. 512MB DDR3. PCIE. HDTV. DUAL DVI. SLI. HDCP - Spire Online

I think they're a trade distributor, but maybe if you can get in touch with them they can point you in a direction of someone who'll order one in for you.

Thanks for that. Already emailed them very early hours this morning. Get impression from my research last night that these card will not be in the UK (if they do reach here) till end of this month (if customs don't pre-long that further). Got a reply from Spire 10 minutes before you posted mentioning them. They seem to be helpful and have asked for my address to point me to local retailers. I have had to inform them though it is a cool pipe version of the card. Link you sent me is the normal version 8800GT they have on their website. I also get feeling some Sparkle retailers deal direct with sparkle for stock.

Still - I still pervail looking for a retailer anywhere online or in UK that can post it to me. Hopefully soon or via pre-order so I know I will Definetely get one.

Otherwise anyone that brags they have one and I dont is gonna get it!
