what is this "foolproof" method you speak of? I'd like to uninstall the 4.0 drivers i have, since i had 3.8s i think, and want to make sure i get rid of the old ones completely.Originally Posted by Stoo
on the 3dmark subject, i agree it can give slightly suspicious results but its a good way of telling if there is something set that is hampering performance. for instance i was trying the different agp speeds on my 9600 pro recently and found that playing Vice City on agp x4 or agp off made very little noticable difference to the gameplay. the two settings gave scores of 6300 and 8400 respectively.
i think sometimes its a good evaluation, if maybe a little inaccurate.

I get a little under 13k in 3d mark 2001, and I had noting overclocked, apart from Overdrive enabled.
I only got a little over 18K on 2001SE with
3Ghz p3
1024mb ddr400 dual channel (cas 2.5)
36gb raptor
9800xt 256mb
on a IC7 Max3
I was expecting at least 20K+
I just run 2003 and I got 6509
so i take it my 7000+ is good then
well, I ran a test last night on 2k1 and I got a smidge over 11k
I have a 2100+ @ default speeds (wont overclock since i installed my 9600xt, freezes in games...) got 768mb of 333 DDR and a powercolor 9600XT.
had all setttings at performance, no AA no firewall no AV no internet...

Looking over the online results it appears that your expectations were very optimistic, as every P4 system over 20k marks is running at least 3.2GHz, and it's probable that that the gfx cards have been heavily overclocked too.Originally Posted by Defiant

well it was a little less than 1 hour, not got a compare url cos I can't resolve futuremark for some reason
I got 13683 with my Athlon XP 2500+ @ 3200+, voltages set to motherboard defaults, 2x256Mb PC3500 @ 200Mhz 2-2-2-6, Sapphire Radeon 9600XT Fireblade @ 500/325 (that's the stock for my card). Windows 2000 Professional SP2, directX 8.1, Catalyst 3.2 with Catalyst 3.10 control panel, nForce2 driver version 3.13.
The OS I used is fairly well tweaked for 3dmark2001SE, but it should give you an indication of what you can expect.

that was before I overclocked anything other than the gfx card to 297/297..

that's the cpu at 2800+speeds on the 333 bus

That one is current, I think there's quite a bit of headroom left in that card too.. That's a point, anyone know what sort of maximum the AIW 9800se's o/c to? (I'm currently at 405 / 345ddr)
