    That won't be , It shoud be 8 x 2 ( 8 pipelines x 2 textures / pipe )

US sources close to Nvidia have confirmed that their next generation GPU will feature a full sixteen pipelines – not as previously speculated an 8x2 arrangement - and this is reflected in the increased transistor count of circa 205-210 million, up from a previously speculated 175 million.

I am skeptical of anything Nvidia puts forward as to be honest recently they haven't been up to scratch. That's not the only factor though - ATI have come along leaps and bounds.

Still, I think the competition is good - imagine how slow graphics technology would progress if there was only one GPU giant! (Infact, imagine if MS had a REAL competitor, I bet Windows would be a lot better than it is now.)

Just because it has 16 pipelines, doesnt mean its going to blow the competition out of the water. Nvidia's current 4x2 pipeline designs seem to keep up with Ati's 8x1 setup.

And if more pipelines is such a key factor, why is the ATI + Nvidia card very similar at dx8.1 performance?

although it looks like nvdia has really got its act together on the hardware front [ must have been alot of shouting for the last year] - what modern game doesnt use 2 textures per pixel??

I'm sure that a proportion of background will be single texture, but surely any up-close 3d-modeled scenery in games like quake 3 and HL2 will employ multiple textures ??

I'm GUESSING that this is the answer to td 5 s thought above, but am guessing, so if someone knows better...

Also remember how much performance relies on pixel/vertex shader grunt.... remember the speech by valve on the subject of HL 2 perf?

No matter how performance turns out though, My respect for Nvidia has def gone back up to where it used to be though - they were the ones that turned the 3D industry on it's head - first with the original TNT, then with the GeForce and TnL... and initiating 6 month product cycles - THEY'RE the ones that have made these modern games possible now, rather than five years from now.....

lol Funnelhead you sound like a typical nvidia fanboy, infact no, you sound like your about to start a religion... maybe you should start writing an nvidia bible..

3DFX were the ones I would say made modern games possible as they are now.

Lets hope the NV40 doesnt require Dyson vortex cooling technology lol
