Hmmm, funnily enough the apple displays are the closest to what I was looking for. They are still a bit on the pricey side though. It's weird that you cant buy a screen approaching my laptop screen (which is only 15.4" but manages 1680x1050 - the same as the "smaller" apple) in a desktop version.
Choices. Maybe dual screens is the way to go...What's the best 17" on the market?

the apple 20" link screen (about £800 - sorry i think this is excluding vat) does 1600 by something or other (1050?) - we had one in work the other day... VERY nice.
considering the price of the apple one, i don't think you're going to find anything better / cheaper ?
