    first touch the back of the gpu, if your finger melts, then id say its not a good idea
    With most stock coolers, at stock speeds and volts, it wil lbe very close to melting your hand.
    anyway, 7v works by using the potential difference between 12v and 5v. theres nothing special about 0v as voltage depends on two sources, voltage is the difference between them. It just happens that the ground is 0v so everything is measured in reference to it...
    on a molex power connector, red is 5v, both blacks are ground, and 12v is the yellow one... 12 would be the positive, so that goes to the red wire on your fan, while the black wire goes to the red one.

    Thanks for that - my finger is still intact (although its a little crispy )

    My fan has only 2 wires - red and black. After thinking about it though I may just leave it alone as its in my Shuttle which gets a bit warm anyway. May look at changing the stock heatsink and fan for a quieter one instead.

    Sounds to me like you're a lot better off changing the cooler rather than slowing that fan down.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
