Low Profile Graphics Card for Dell Studio Slim

I have just bought a slim Dell Studio from Dell Outlet which I am planning to add the LG Blu-Ray/HD DVD Player to. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 2GB Ram (upgrading to 4GB). According to Tomshardware.com the processor is one of the best for Blu-Ray playback, but I would like to back it up with a reasonably priced low-profile graphics card.

    So 2 issues:

    - Best value low profile GPU?
    - Will I need to replace the 250W PSU?

    Any assistance appreciated.

You can get a 3450, passive and requires no power from the psu, all from the mobo, goes for around 25-30 i think.

    It's 4.98*

Re: Low Profile Graphics Card for Dell Studio Slim

Thanks Peter, I noticed that the 3450 is what Dell seem to include in some of the slim systems...Would the PSU be able to handle a nvidia 9500 or ATi HD4550?

Re: Low Profile Graphics Card for Dell Studio Slim

a 4550 would be no problem, that also requires no external power, neither would a 4670 too iirc.

    The 9500GT is the same.

    It's 4.98*

Yeah, I had my eyes on that one. On paper, it would appear that the HD 4550 would be a better suit, but looking at actual usage comparisons, maybe not.

Re: Low Profile Graphics Card for Dell Studio Slim

Am too on the look out for a low profile card to go with a slim ff Fujitsu pc.
Will mainly be using it to view blue ray/hd stuff, out of 4550 and the 9500 gt, which one would be ideal?

4550 supports HD playback better, and support audio over hdmi with the adaptor.

    It's 4.98*

also if you get a passive one, be sure to get some kind of after market cooling because if your running HD content im sure it will heat up quick!!
