When I first saw this thread title, I read it as "More Nvidia reaming" :/
They do decent cards, but these kinds of marketing ploys make me want to hate them.
Yes!!
No!!
I'm already confused by NVidia's card names, so yeah to me it is a bit too far. Sticking with ATi because at least then iknow what i'm getting
If they rename every card they sell to fit the new format so 9600GT becomes whatever then fair enough let them do it for everything and be done with it then we will have a new starting point to work from.
But I gather they are not doing that so the will still be 9 series cards as well as GTX2** cards so why the need to rename the 9800 cards?
It also erks me that the GTX260 when they changed the number of cores was still called the GTX260 and its even more annoying that the new 55nm card is still called the GTX260 when the 55nm GTX280 got called the GTX285...
Anyway renaming old cards is a waste of time and money in my opinion and in the current economic climete you would have thought that nvidia would have been trying to save money not throw it away rebranding old products.
And don't forget their chipsets. The brand new nForce 980a SLI is just “good” old 780a!
How can anyone vote NO,
this just sounds like another way for Nvidia to scam innocent n00bs into thinking there buying a new card when instead its the same old card, just renamed. :-/
It's name. Do your research before buying any piece of hardware. Standard practice whenever I even think about upgrading or building a new comp. Research everything! I couldn't care less what my 9800GTX+ is called. All I know it does it's job
Some people just assume that bigger is better, and the companies naming these cards don't really make it easier for the n00b's.
LOL, reminds me of the olden days when i was happy i could play GTA San Andreas on my ATI X1300
