    The Next graphics card releases

I keep hearing around these forums that ATI and maybe Nvidia too are releasing new cards this month, but when I google for this I find nothing. So is this true or just a myth? If it is true can someone please post links to the articles so I can get all excited and giggle like a girl.

The main reason im curious though is I plan on building a new rig soon.

    Cheers, Fuzz

    Poor Fraz, poor

From what I've heard, nvidia will be attempting to take the lead with mid range 45nm chips in Q2, April/May time, with the high end coming out July/August. Atleast this is what I'm hoping as that's when I'll be upgrading probs.

I've not heard anything for this month though.

The new chips are going to be low-mid end only, so not something to drool over really. Wait for later in the year if you're interested in gaming cards.

What will be more exciting is the power consumption of these newer cards. If the ATI RV740 can offer HD4830(or near HD4850) level performance in a bus powered card it would excellent for people who have a SFF PC like me!!

From what I have gathered the RV740 will have the following specs:

    640 stream processors

Core clocked higher than the HD4830

128 bit memory access with GDDR5 RAM meaning total bandwidth available will be similiar to a HD4830 with 256 bit memory access and GDDR3

Lower power consumption than the HD4830

    Manufactured on a 45nm process

Re: The Next graphics card releases

It seems that the RV740 has been delayed until April:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/85275/RV7..._to_April.html

The RV790 is supposed to have 960 shaders running at 850mhz!!

Re: The Next graphics card releases

Would it be fair to speculate that RV740 is getting GDDR5 memory because it's being produced alongside RV790? In other words, they are just being practical and dumping the same memory in both.

I would love to get a better idea of how the new mid-level chip will stack up against the 4830.
