    Palit Geforce GTX 260 Sonic

    Hey, first post! hello!

Could I ask a quick question..

I originally bought a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium to add to my system. It ran fine in the 1x PCIe slot but i then went and bought a Geforce GTX 260 Sonic, to make room for this card I had to stick my sound card into the other PCIe 8/16x slot.

I have a gigabyte GA-N650iSLI-DS4 motherboard and in order to enable the other 8/16x slot I had to change to SLI mode on the board. I then put the new card in the 1st 8/16x slot and the sound card is in the 2nd.

My question is, will the Geforce perform less in the 1st slot as it is now runnin in PCIe 8x mode (as the full 16 lanes has been split between the SLI slots). I would happily put it back into single graphics card mode but I then lose the ability to run my sound card in the other slot. The 1x slot above the graphics card is fine but the heat from the graphics card would probably destroy it!

Sorry if this is a stupid question

Why do you need SLI enabled? That only applies if you have a pair of x16 cards in those slots I'd have thought.

    Hi

Without SLI enabled i lose the ability to put my 1x Sound Blaster card into my other SLI slot. There is no room to fit the sound card into the other 1x PCIe slots apart from above the graphics card but it will bare the bulk of the heat from the graphics.

    Thanks

Re: Palit Geforce GTX 260 Sonic

I guess to make the question simpler..

Is the graphics cards bandwidth bottlenecked by just using 8 lanes rather than 16?

    cheers
