Question Hercules ATi 3D Prophet 9800se AIW 128mb overclocking

Hi, im new to this forum and this is my first thread

So I got myself this card (read title) and I read somewhere I had 4 of 8 pipelines disabled/broke. Now I was wondering how can I check if these still work and how could I enable them. If I can make a 9800PRO of it I really want to try.

First downlaod the latest omega drivers from http://www.omegacorner.com/index_ati.html and follow the instructions on how to install them which is easy. When it asks you chose the softmod option making it into a full 9800pro aiw.
Run 3dm2k1 3dm2k3 and as many other dx8/9 apps as you can to fully test the pipelines. If it gets artifacting this can be corrected by underclocking the gpu (It will still perform better than before the softmod) and fiddling with the settings (I dont know which - I dont have a softmodable card so never tryed it)
If your card has good pipelines it should reach 425mhz or higher with decent cooling

if the pipelines are broke = no mod, i think u can again chance ur luck and do a solder job to try and repair the pipelines, only heard of it however not seen any links.

underclock the GPU of the card and see if that helps, if u have modded it right like Silent Death said u will get better performance than b4... otherwise remove the Omegas and use sytem restore, hopefully that will fix your problem

use the artifact tester included with the omega drivers..

If you're getting problems on the windows desktop, you've put the clock settings too high.

If you're going to remove the drivers, then something like this might be handy:

    http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/

Never used it myself, but recommended by others (so you can't blame me if it all goes horribbly, horibbly wrong).

Also, could they be caused by overheating? I would check the temperatures and make sure they're not too high.

    Hmm sounds fishy...
I remember when i used the recommended Rivatuner Application to overclock my FX 5600 XT, the moment i moved a megahertz it was like a snow shower in winter on my monitor!
Besides this being a novelty it was annoying

Anyway all joking aside, using the included driver overclocking software the card O/C'd ok so i reckons it depends on the software u use to do it that may cause problems. but heck, u could be right of course...

underclock the core to 250mhz and see if it still has the dots and then increase it untill they start to come back.

Did you install the Omega drivers with the Softmod option, or did you do something else?
