    sky on a monitor?

ive basically got a great deal on sky but not yet purchased a HDTV, i currently have a 2407wfp monitor in the same room which sky will be installed, can sky be viewed on a pc monitor?

its got a load of connections -
    component, composite, dvi, vga

or can sky only be viewed via HDMI?

edit: also forgot to add that i have a possible optical connection for the sound output (all them video connections on the monitor are video only!)

    Re: sky on a monitor?

I'll assume we are talking about Sky HD, as Sky SD you could just do Scart->Composite.

Early Sky HD boxes came with a component output but that was phased out on newer models, I beleive due to HDCP and the "HD Ready" standard.

You may also be able to do HDMI-> DVI and take the audio seperately - I'm not entirely sure.

    Re: sky on a monitor?

    Yep, will be SKY HD

monitor supports HDCP so hopefully will have no problem, what connections does this box support?

Video output: HDMI socket, 2 x SCART (Composite, RGB), S-Video, component HD Analogue (Y, Pr, Pb). Note that component video support on newer boxes is set to be dropped

so could i connect the box to my monitor with composite + optical?

    Re: sky on a monitor?

we got a sky hd box recently (amstrad ) and it comes with a hdmi (I suggest you use hdmi to dvi adapter) which carries just stereo audio and a seperate optical out for the full surround sound goodness!

I see no reason why this shouldn't work

Just get a DVI to HDMI convertor/adapter, then it'll solve all your problems ; )
