I have an idea about physx...

    Hey

Just upgraded my GTS8800 to an ATI 4890 but am missing my physx support. I know I can get a dedicated card (£40-£50 on ebay) but could I get a PCI NVIDIA 8600GT and use that as a dedicated physx processor?

If so would the physx processing be worse/equal to/better than the dedicated physx card?

    Ta

EDI: I only have 1 spare PCI slot, btw

    EDIT 2: or a 9500GT

AFAIK,Nvidia disables Physx support when an ATI card is detected. Even if you find a workaound it is not guaranteed that it will stay that way with newer Nvidia drivers.

I think there are some workarounds but you will need to check.

As CAT says officially there is no way to do this. Feel free to google for hacked drivers / workarounds, but be prepared to block / fight off / clean off tons of malware if you choose to go that way. Or just put up with the lack of PhysX! I'm intrigued as to which game titles you're really missing it on...?

Re: I have an idea about physx...

phys-x is used in very very few games anyway, not worth it. Serious game devs (that haven't been bribed) like Valve use physics that works for all graphics cards, not just one brand.

Well I've been collecting PhysX games since having an original dedicated card. I've got Ghost Recon 2, Shadowgrounds Survivor, the mod for UT3, Mirror's Edge...

    I've got demos too.

    I don't NEED it, I want it.
