ATI fire GL 8800?

hi, bit of a long story but i ended up with this card i have got 2 options send it back or think about keping it.

anyway i teseted it in 3dmart 01 and got just under 9000 with a xp2000+,256mb pc 2100 ram.

which is double what i was getting my my mx440.

so i would like to know what is this card? is it any good for running far cry(i can't seem to get it to load, but could with my mx440)

or is it a designers card?
how old are they.

any info would be welcome.

it is, if it gets 9k on 2001, that isnt bad

my mate just paid 70 for a 9600 pro and it only gets 9k onhis system

It should be okay for games - maybe equivalent to an 8500LE 128Mb??

Far Cry should run nicely at 1024x768, no AA or AF, with low-mid detail, given the rest of your system...

thanks for the replies, i have got the far cry demo but it doesn't run it i will click start new game and it will start to load get up to about 97% and stop so i restart abd it says the fireGL driver caused a error. it is the one for windows XP from the ati site and call of duty runs very well on it.

any ideas?

stoo, no i brought a 9500np from retec, but the 1st card i got was broke so i sent it back for a replacement, and this is the card i got intstead of a 9500. so i can send it back or keep it and get some money back.
just not sure what to do yet.

well, unless you're going to be doing lots of opengl CAD/CAM work, it's not going to be much use in games..

theres only 1 way to find out, whack it in and give it a whirl, see how it plays

well i finally got far cry to load, but it woul just go from a blue colour to bright greeny yellow colour and take ages to move. so i take it it can't play far cry.

but can do call of duty.

try and run farcry in Open GL mode??
as im sure that Call of dutis Open GL and far cry is normaly DirectX

Yeah, but with 2k1 it could easily be his cpu etc taking up the slack, so it's never going to be a reliable graphics performance benchmark, as he's pointed out, far cry is pretty much a slideshow.

FireGL cards are primarily designed to be opengl accelerators for cad/cam/3dstudio etc, DX performance will be *dire*, even opengl games won't be that hot compared to something like a 9500+ radeon.
