    GTX 275 upgrade to a ......?

    Lo dudes

Don't need to do it, but the cards on sale right now seem stonking!

Have a GTX275 of uberness and it's proper nice, but what's better, buck for buck?

ie, if I stick mine up for sale what's worth grabbing.

I am, as a man of tighness, not too bothered about price opposed to electricity draw! I hate waste.. my GTX275 is very good on power in 2d and quiet too. I don't mind burning the watts when I'm killing people in CoD5/Vietnam but I hate wasting it in Excel.

    So.... what's it to be?

    Stick or Twist?

    460?
    6850?

    hmmmmm..... nice thought huh?

    "Wait."

69xx series will be out in November so lets say with them he have a starting price of £230-250. Say you can get get ~£90/100 for your card you'll have to dig £150 from somewhere.

I wouldn't go for any cards on offer currently as a.) the new 68xx are about an equivalent too a GTX 285 for arguments sake and b.) Its best to see what the 69xx offer and how they effect pricing of other cards as well.

Of course there is the Dark Horse in the GTX 580 - but trying to guess its properties is fairly hard, well, maybe except for heat output

tl;dr: Wait a few more weeks.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

The HD6870 should be around 30% faster than a GTX275 but consume less power:

Stick. For the just coming out generation and see what the next has to offer. The performance increase just isn't enough over a GTX275.

Can I jump in on your thread? I have an 8800GTX that's done me proud over the years, but playing New Vegas at 1920*1600 at the weekend practically made it burst into tears.

Would it be worth grabbing something like a 6870? I'm assuming it would be a fairly dramatic performance increase.

The rest of my system is much newer, due a complicated motherboard-related saga a few months ago - i7 920, 6Gb, GA-X58A-UD3R and bits

    Re: GTX 275 upgrade to a ......?

Obviously it would be a clear improvement but its still worth waiting to see how the 69xx affect pricing of the lower cards and of course, the 69xx's being an option to upgrade too as well.

For an x58 i7 system I'd definitely consider a newer card, but I'd probably wait for the 69xx, unless you reckon your budget won't stretch that far.

Thanks for supporting my sensible side - now if I can just restrain my buying finger for a few more weeks...
