    New 24" monitor. Advice?

    Hi all

I'm after for some first hand advice on a new monitor. Because of the work I do (mostly text based), I have some specific requirements:

    - 1200 pixel vertical resolution (i.e. 16:10 aspect ratio - 4:3 in a pinch)
    - Pivotting
    - Good angle of vision from sides
    - Matte, antiglare screen.
    - DVI
    - Warranty

Looking on http://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=monlcd19...20x1200#xf_top I was able to narrow down my list to a few models I can afford and I was wondering if anybody here actually has one of these models and could answer a few questions and give general advice.

They are all 1920x1200, 24" monitors and the shortlist includes:

    - HP Compaq LA2405wg
    - Lenovo ThinkVision L2440p
    - NEC MultiSync EA241WM
    - HP ZR24w
    - HP LP2475w

    Basically, I wanted to know
    1) Do they buzz in a silent room
    2) When pivotted in portrait mode, is the image clear (especially text)
when seen from an angle (as in a side monitor setup).
    3) Is the antiglare effective
    4) Are you happy with it

Of course, I'm open to any suggestion for other models or solutions. The HPs are just out of my range, but I could stretch to them. Regrettably, I cannot afford a Dell UltraSharp U2410 :-((

Thanks a lot for your advice

    Lorenz

    Re: New 24" monitor. Advice?

I have a HP LP2475w and i've been using it for a year and to answer your question about this monitor:

    1) It does not buzz in a silent room.

    2) The text is clear when u put in portrait mode.

    3) This monitor doesnt have anti glare but as long as u don't have direct sunlight on the screen the screen is still clear.

    4) Still dead pixel free (*touches wood*) and am happy with it

I have also a HP ZR24w but it died within 2 days... The difference between the LP2475w and ZR24w is that the ZR24w is abit brighter when calibrated.

Now to wait for this courier driver to pick up my dead monitor...lol

    Even at a significant angle?

But it's matte, right? Not this glossy mirrory stuff

The ZR24W is about 20 pounds cheaper, and I'd tend to go for that.

ATM I have a LP2065, and I like it a lot. Considering that I look at text on a screen 9 hours a day

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr24w.htm

Have a read through that review if you haven't already, they compare both the HP models.

Both are pretty similar, but the HP ZR24w is marginally better than the LP2475w with out of the box (default) colours and responsiveness - though for your usage, responsiveness isn't going to play much of a factor. Also both screens have a matte anti-glare screen.

The main difference between the two is that the LP2475w is wide gamut where as the ZR24w is standard gamut.

As noted from the TFTCentral review, the LP2475w apparently has better viewing angles and calibrated blacks/contrast so for you, that'd be the better buy if you're concerned about viewing angles.

I should point out that you're probably going to have a hard time finding the ZR24w as they've been sold out practically everywhere since Christmas, some have even gone as far to say they've been discontinued. The LP2475w is meant to be discontinued/EOL, but a lot more stores have it in stock, however it is more expensive.

    Re: New 24" monitor. Advice?

    2) Yup the text is clear even if u look at it at near 90 degrees on the screen.

    3) The screen is matte not like those ones that samsung has lol.

Also the HP LP2475w has the same IPS panel as the Dell UltraSharp U2410 back then and was cheaper to buy the hp rather than the dell one.
