I dunno how valid this is, as it's merely a personal opinion about my own monitor; but I bought a Belinea 10 80 80 22" CRT monitor from MicroDirect about 4 years ago and I still love it. Does everything I need it to (although 2 inputs would be handy ).
Actually mine isn't bad at allOriginally Posted by Howard
Yes, I think that my iiyama 454 Pro is better but it was 2x as much for a 19" & a 22" is going to be minimum £350 - £200 more for an extra inch & a slight quality improvement.

Well... I have an 19" LG Flatron 915FT+ and also just recieved this eBuyer monitor too.Originally Posted by BUFF
The LG cost £350 when I got it but it's under £300 now, so over twice the price of the 21".
TBH - The 21" looks "fuzzy" - Especially in the likes of Excel etc. Even in games the menu's look fuzzier.
Looking at Excel, the LG has crisp, clean black lines. The Samsung has wide, dark lines which are not NEARLY as crisp or as true to reproduction etc.
So spending £xxx over the competition for a Sony/LG/Mitzi is WELL worth it IMHO - The difference between the 2 monitors is amazing to see up close. I never knew how good the LG was until I saw them side by side.
Basic point of the post - Spend as much as possible on the monitor. It is what your eyes look at all the time and makes a big difference to the picture you see. Getting a good GFX card to have the best picture possible, then getting a cheap CRT - No point.
Oh - And I've never seen a TFT which comes close to the LG in terms of versatility as well as picture quality. (The LG is sharp at any resolution)
They were a good price at £130 but I wouldn't pay £175 for one. You would be better of spending an extra £70 and getting an Iiyama 454 pro.Originally Posted by BUFF
Believe me I've got both and the IIyama puts the Samsung to shame. I have had the Samsung for a week now and I just cant get used to it. If the 454pro is on while the Samsung is on the picture on the Samsung is terrible, the colours are poor and the picture seems to be covered in a kind of perminent fog, and the screen isn't flat which i wasn't very impressed with seeing as it is advertised by Samsung as a "perfect flat screen".
But having said that if you use the Samsung and have no other monitor you will probably find it ok.
If I know Sony, that'll be £50-100 worth of product worth, and £200-£250 for the little sony logo.Originally Posted by Platinum

As Apex, said, however, each to their own.
I've got both too & I agree that the Iiyama is better (the extra screen area is nice though on the Samsung).Originally Posted by Eddy396
Having spent some time fiddling with the Samsung's adjustments I'm very happy with it & there is another post here saying that using a BNC cable instead of the standard 1 improves the picture again.
I do get the feeling though from the reviews/comments that there is obviously some product quality variability here - looks like I got a good 1

if you mean when both are running off 1 video card then maybe your card is struggling.
I won't be going over to a TFT at home any time soon. I use a 15" one at work, it's fine, but I much prefer coming home to my lovely (and ridiculously cheap) Cornerstone P1500. It's easily the best bit of computer gear I've ever bought.

Me I'm using an 18.1" Microtek 815c and It does a fantastic job, I like It better than the 17" CRT that It replaced. It does 1280x1024 @ 75Hz with ease, and even at a lower resolution It looks very good to Me, Sure It's not as sharp at 1024x768 as It would be at 1280x1024, But I don't mind. So I'm happy, Besides the LCD is cooler than a CRT on the Thermometer than the CRT would be and It gets really hot here, Today It was 112F(48c) outside, Inside It was less, Like 92F(36c) the CRT would have made It hotter in here and Me and My cat wouldn't like that as there is no AC here just what's known as a Swamp Cooler, It's about 16-18% humidity outside and about 42% inside. I've got to get some Silver window tinting done so that next year It will be cooler inside. Of course for the Moment It's extend the cables from the KVM on new cables and put the 1st PC in the cooler part of the house with the 2nd PC and Operate both PCs remotely, Temps out here in the Living room dropped a few degrees after I did that, The cooler area stayed cool though as It's almost under the Swamp Cooler, But at least I have plenty of Water for cooling as the Swamp Cooler is left on 24/7, Except when the Water pump for the Well is down for replacement or repairs as It was recently.
Mate I would shrink your sig massively before one of the mods do it for you. Just trying to help
MMMmmmm I never thought of that I'll have a look. The BNC route might be an option though I dont want to spend £15 to find it makes no difference.Originally Posted by BUFF
heh, that sig of Zoom's is bigger than most of the posts in this thread!
I bought a 19" Sony multiscan 400 PST from Dabs in 97 and i'm still using it now. I remember unpacking it, turning it on and thinking "omg, what a display"
To date i havn't had a single problem with it despite using it allmost 24/7.
I would love a TFT also but i feel there's still too many issues with Dead pixels and blurry problems to go that route yet.
If this monitor died in the next few months or so i would definately get another Sony, probably that 24" monster job.
Edit; agree about Doom 3 as well, claustrophobic darkness.. Man what a big let down.

I recently treated myself to a iiyama vision master pro 513 22" and I love it
One thing to bear in mind if choosing a Diamondtron NF-CRT is that you can see the shadows from the supporting wires in the glass, something to do with the design it occurs in all makes
Can be a little irrating at first, but now I only notice it when surfing.
As for the weight! 32Kg and I got it sitting on a glass table

Most, if not all Iiyama's have suspension wires... It depends on the type of mask/tube used.Originally Posted by Bro John (UK)
There are many other types of mask which monitors can have, most without the wires.
www.tomshardware.com had a guide detailing all the different monitor mask types.
With out these wires we would not have flat crt screens.Originally Posted by Bro John (UK)
yeah 32kg is a wee bit heavy but then most of it is frpm the glass.
