    Going back to a CRT

AS much as I love my TFT im very temted when I get my new desk sorted to get a 22" CRT for my main monitor and use the TFT as a second monitor and for lans, why? well I also want to use it as a TV and that shouldnt givethe blocky effect the TFT does when setting lower res's, also I have the power now for some proper hi res gaming
So whats the best to go for? not really sure about iiyama as the last one I had had some minor annoying faults, also dont want to pay silly sony prices.
Black if poss too, anyone made the change back to CRT from TFT, whats the quality of CRT's like nowdays?

    Others to look at are

    Viewsonic
    Eizo

But my first choice would be a sony, gdm range, unlessthey have replaced that range with a better range

Well I know paying 50 more for a vidcard can get you 50 more worht of a vid card but a extra 300 for a monitor? even by my standards that seems a hell of a lot for what you get

er no, they 300+ better than the competition?
Also after looking around it seems most manufacturers dont make CRT's any more so whats the chance of me getting hold of a quality one?

Surely that looks awful?, I mean 648 by 486 for NTSC if you are watching full screen doesn't the screen look all blocky?.....

As for Sony CRT's yes they are lovely but not that lovely Apex, had a 21" one some years back when my dad's work got rid of the 2/3yr old models and replaced them with brand new ones. Lovely and heavy as hell, but they aren't worth that much more than some of the others, IIyama screens at that size are also beauiful pieces of Kit.

As for making a change back - erm No thanks. TFT is the future, i'm staying here thanks

    Depends.

Like with psu's one of the common things about quality is the sheer weight of it and this extends to CRT's.

The sony i have is a monster at 32kg but i know that my money has gone on top notch glass along with the rest of it.

Now take a cheap CRT it feels cheap and this is proven by the results you get with them.

This sony i got i have had since 98 when it was made and i don't see me changing it any time soon.

Spend 800 < on a top end crt that will last 5+ or spend 300 on summat that might last 12 months before it's outdated ? i know which i would pick.

This is not ment has a dig at TFT's but the fact is i like my CRT and i have yet to find a TFT that comes close to performing to the same level.

Naa your never going to find a TFT that weighs 32kg unless its the size of a house
And i'd be suprised to hear of an iiyama monitor going bang after 12months, sounds like you are a bit of a over zealous sony enthuasiast, so i'll just make sure we've got some other view points
