    GeForce 6800 >>>> GeForce 6800 Ultra/GT BIOS flash

Anyone here managed a successfull GeForce 6800 >>>> GeForce 6800 Ultra/GT BIOS flash? Or heard of one?

-It seems that it is never successfull at all! Has anyone done it and managed to flash ot back sucesfully? Because those four missing pipelines hadn’t been disabled just for nothing – they have certain defects, which show themselves as artifacts in 3D applications after you enable those pipelines. Thus, although it is possible to transform a GeForce 6800 into a GeForce 6800 Ultra/GT by turning on all 16 pipelines, there’s no practical gain from that so far: the disabled pipelines are 100% sure to have defects and their turning on results in various visual artifacts.

Correct. And you'll probably find that even if the disabled pipes do work (unlikely) that the core has been speed-binned, so you are likely to get a much lower speed from it. Add the fact that you've half the memory bus bandwidth AND much slower memory (DDR1), and you realise that you *can't* make an Ultra from a Non-Ultra.

Now the GTs, well, that's a different story. :-)

it appears even ati dont want to give too much away for free this time, even the x800pro with 12 pipes wont softmod to x800xt 16 pipes, hardmod only afaik. 6800 is still a great card but worth £100 over the 9800pro? if youre going to do something, do it right, 6800gt minimum imho.
