x800 pro loads to a black windows xp screen

    Hello to you all

im new to this forum, but anyways here is my problem. My computer after hitting the power button loads to a black windows xp proffesional screen, i know it loads to windows because i can hear the hard drive working and doing things. However the screen is black and the monitor has no signal, so i was wondering how you would go about resolving this problem. The monitor is a 15" LCD Samsung (old one btw). I thought it might be something to do with the VGA connector, and the number of pins it has in it, but im not entirely sure.
My system specifications are the following:
    -AMD Athlon 64 3400+
    -Asus K8V - Via K8T800 cipset motherboard
    -Mushkin 512mb PC3200 DDR 400 memory
-Antec True Blue 480 Watt power supply
-Ati radeon x800 pro graphics card
-Western Digital 120gb 8mb cache SATA Hard drive
    -Windows XP Professional with SP1

Thanks for your help in advance

Had this exact problem a couple of days ago when I upgraded a mates PC.

Installed Windows while I had the box and plugged into my TFT but it just wouldnt show the dekstop ONCE Windows was loaded i.e. it would show boot up and the scrollig logo then it would be blank

Got it working by pressing F8 during bootup to get the bootup options (safe mode etc) and choosing the VGA option. Worked every time since then

Thanks for the reply richie, but i dont think i have made my problem clear enough, i see no screen what so ever when i turn on the pc. When i hit the power button, there is no image at all, no bios, no logo, nothing. But i can hear the hard drive working so i am not sure what the problem is. With most VGA connectors i have seen, i always see 1 pin missing from inside, not could that be a problem? Im not sure but with modern day TFT screens, i see that the VGA connector has all the pins in it.

Thanks again in advance for any help.

When you turn it on does the pc post? Is there any beeps sound at all?
Do the case fans spin? Does the fan on the graphics card spin? Do your opticals light up?

All the fans spin and i can hear the hard drive working. Secondly all the lights on the motherboard work and are the colour green (so i presume it is working). There are no beeps when i turn it on. But all the fans spin and hard drive light flashes. However when i press the power button to turn off the computer it doesnt turn off the computer no matter how long i hold it for. then after holding down the power button to turn off the computer, the hard drive light turns red. Any more info needed, plz dont hesitate to ask. Thnx for the help so far.

    Its not POST'ing.

Reset the BIOS by removing all pwer to the PC and then removing the CMOS battery for 10-20 secs. Re-insert and see what happens.
