    Question Overclocking Radeon 9700 Pro

    Hey all,
Just wondered if anyone has any experience of overclocking a Radeon 9700, just wondered how it performs and what speeds you manage to get it to.

I noticed that the overclocker for my card is very limited and cant squeeze much more than 16Mhz core and 5Mhz mem. Any suggestions why this maybe???

    Thanks in advance

    Try using ATiTool: http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

It automatically gets the best core and mem overclocks without artifacts. It's best to test for artifacts afterwards manually and then lower the core/mem by 5-10mhz.

If you still struggle getting overclocks it may be that your cards cooling isnt up to scratch. Have a go and report back...

I have a 9700 which can get around 345 on the memory and around 365 on the core, depending on what application you're running... I use Radlinker btw...

As for cooling, I'd recommend one of the Arctic Cooling VGA silencers...

    Hey thanks for the replies,
yeh i know but its 325core and 310 mem default. I use ATITool and the best it can get it to is about +10mhz stepping on each if that on memory. My heating is fine, 4 fans in a lian Li case, temps around 40C... therefore i ant see why my gfx card could be that heated as my case temps are fairly low.

I cant figure out why, ive noticed friends manage to overlock by 100mhz stable, yet i can only get +10-15 :/

ok ive looked into it a bit further and heard that the drivers (standard ATi latest drivers) can cause the graphics card to be locked to a certain extent. So I'm gunna try using the omega and post back the results, and let you know if i get things any further than I already have....

    Thanks

I had to flash the bios on my card before I could overclock it, because it's a 9700 non-pro... but I think the Pro's are unlocked...

What is the highest overclock you've managed, in figures? and what are you using to test stability?

Other things to try, well your PSU could still be a problem... My guess would be the card's cooling isn't up to scratch, and it's overheating... (Case temperatures don't really matter here, it's the core temperature of the card that affects it)

So you have managed a 300Mhz OC on core. Nice.

The only difference was you used ati tray instead of ati tool. Very strange. There's also radlinker.

no lol i wish, its not oced by 300mhz, the result i listed above was DDR of mem/core. So the clock is upto 356core and 324mem.

Sounds like you've just been unlucky with your card. My 9500NP does 350 memory and 415 core and softmods with only slight artifacts Some mug sold it me for fifty notes a good long while back
