    9800pro or 9600XT

now I know the 9800 is a good card, infact both 9800 and 9600 are but is the XT version of the 9600 as good as the 9800pro version or is there no contest really and I should shut up and get the 9800pro...?
oh, and having not had an ATI card before (only ever had nvidia's) whats the equivelent to detonators used by the radeons? and similarly have more recent drivers caused a bit of a slow down in certain cards as the detonators used to do?
i.e. earlier versions of display drivers actually made things run faster/smoother than more recent releases... if so which ones are best to use?

According to Toms VGA Charts a 9800 Pro will whip the bejeesus out of a 9600XT

9800pro. No question. It's far superior to the 9600XT.
The 9600 is very overpriced for what is basically the top end of the entry level.
A year ago the 9800pro was the dogs whatsits and it still holds it's own against much newer cards.
I had a 128Mb 9800pro until last week and I could achieve an Aquamark score of over 54,000 with it in my P4 3.0c (It overclocks like you wouldn't believe. I had the core running at 454 and the memory at 362, this against the defaults of 380/338)

If you bought a 9600XT you'd be kicking yourself within a week.

Yes, that's as may be, but if you put a 9800pro in your system and ran some benchmarks you'd find that it was much faster.
Clock speeds don't tell the whole story.

What utter pap you're coming out with again. Clocks have little to do with the performance in this case. You tried this last time. Every single benchmark shows the 9800pro outperforms the 9600XT. Heck, even my softmodded 9500NP totally wipes the floor with your card. You never put your money where your mouth was and ran 3DMark03 after I posted my scores, rather came up with all sorts of lamer excuses as to why you couldn't get round to it, and your card would have had to do a world record for a 9600XT by quite some margin to get near either my card or a stock 9800.

Your the one that needs to "shh".
90% of your posts are deficient of any sort of quality, which largely blabber on concerning something totally irrelevant to try and backup your erroneous statements.
When longer term knowledgeable members like Zathras are point out how much nonsense your coming out with, don’t you think its time to listen up ?
