    Dead pixel

    Hi.

My 17" 16ms TFT just arrived from Aria, i'm very very pleased with it, great for gaming and a great picture!

The only problem is i've just noticed one dead pixel which is annoying. Is there any way to try and get rid of them? I could live with it but i'd rather it not be there

    Cheers

Not the 'rubbing trick' that our teachers at school said made you go blind (hence the dead pixel would be of no consquence)?

It does work - with my Bro's Aria 17" he has a permanently 'on' sub-pixel which can be fixed by rubbing it. It occasionally comes back, but it better than nothing.

Allegedly rubbing sometimes works. But keeping on rubbing it will make it drop off...

Sometimes it will get rid of the dead/stuck pixel.
I've got one on mine , but it doesn't go away.
Looks like you may have to live with it as they won't replace it.

It's a bit poo but they won't replace it as it's a ISO Class II TFT (Class I are not consumer TFT's, they are normally class II) - it's a bit crap that you can't be sure your going to get a flawless one, one of the things that (if I had cash) would worry me about getting one.

Here's the info. on what can be 'dead':

    Class a) Pixels always lit b) Pixels never lit c) Sub-pixel: Always lit;
    never lit or blinking.

    - a b c
    I 0 0 0
    II 2 2 5
    III 5 15 50
    IV 50 150 500

they won't though, the best you can try to do is get a refund under the 7 day distance selling act, then order another one a bit later, but there's no gaurantee you'd get one free from dodgy pixels.. there's a reason why they're cheap..

The problem with TFTs is that the failure rate of pixels / sub-pixels is so high that having a 0 dead sub-pixel policy would make TFTs much higher priced than they are now.

It's like having a no-flaw policy with diamonds... Flawless diamonds of any size are vastly expensive. Most diamonds, even small ones, are of SI clarity - i.e. they have flaws that are visible to the naked eye.

If you send it back under distance selling, you'll probably have to pay the postage back...

you could just fork out a bit more for a quality tft instead and save yourself the agro. my bro has an LG 1710 and after a year+ still faultless...
though it was expensive it serves him very very well.
